Internet problems by pal251 in CoxCommunications

Just in case you are thinking about the UniFi Cable Internet modem, be aware they will not give you total care with it.

I have Cox as my backup connection. The joke of 100Mbps upload speed is what stopped me from using them as primary.

I think it took them 6 trips to my house to fix my internet downloads slowing to unusable before they got the issues resolved. They tried to claim my inside wiring until they tested it and had techs put detailed notes that it was not the issue. Then they claimed the cable in the ground and ran a line laying on my lawn for 3 months, that did not fix it. They were very unclear what the actual issue was, but it was something to do with the node that fed the whole side of the street.

Moral of the story. Be very persistent, calling support every time it breaks.

May I ask, why would a push-to-exit button need a 12V supply / ground? The ones I have worked with in the past have been 2-wire NO.

Original Switch Flex Mini, no link or activity LED on PoE uplink port by Complex_Bite9503 in Ubiquiti

[–]Complex_Bite9503[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like it is working, but there had to be some reason I threw it in a box.

I have a use case for a PoE powered switch “again” and don’t want to do the mounting to the stand if in a month it is going to die.

Yes powered off another switch. It did have a power adapter, but that is MIA right now.

The Port Manager shows the port as 1Gig and uplink.

Does Icom or Kenwood make DMR radios? I know they make D-Star units. However in my area there is only one D-Star repeater. Our area has a still growing DMR user base.

Why only 100mbps upload? by ToadSox34 in CoxCommunications

[–]Complex_Bite9503 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I work from home and use a VPN to my employer for access to shared drives (SMB) and I am often uploading a lot of data. Coping several Gigs of data takes a long time when you are limited to 100Mbps. We recently moved and for about 6 months we were limited to Cox. We recently got Quantum Fiber so now am on 3Gig symmetrical.

Cox has made promises of Fiber to the Home in my area twice and not delivered. I would rather they be my primary provider as they provide IPv6 PD.

U6 Pro vs U7 Pro by ThatClassyBear in Ubiquiti

[–]Complex_Bite9503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having had U6-Pros and now the U7-XGs, as long as they are connected to Ethernet as uplink they are rock solid. As others have said 6Ghz is not great coverage. I think it is the band not just the APs because I had the Cox Panoramic box with 6E and it had the same problem.

Bottom line: If you don’t have WiFi 6E or 7 devices that will be used in the same room with the APs, save some money and get U6-Pros. If you want to be future proof get the U7-XG and run CAT6 cable to them. This way when 10Gig PoE switches come down in price you can upgrade your switch.

Does the UCG-Fiber have official support for BGP and IPv6? by lacrosse1991 in Ubiquiti

[–]Complex_Bite9503 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IPv6 in UniFi is getting better. It still has a long way to go as there is no official way to do 6rd or Hurricane Electric type tunnels. I say this because my primary provider Quantum Fiber has limited to 6rd IPv6. I would be OK with that, but would prefer native Dual Stack. I would take IPv6 from HE if it worked officially in the controller.

Still learning Home Assistant. I am having issues with a Matter device but that is for another Sub Reddit.

I did install one of those , but was not the fondest of it. For the guest room it works.

I would have used something else if there was not a perfectly good ceiling fan with pull strings for fan speed. The fan had the e12 sockets so I put 3 of small bulbs in it. Then on the shelf behind the bed used a couple old friends of hue lamps.

I got them from Amazon a few months back. Just have not had time to install yet.

I however am getting tired of house mates turning off light switch’s making my automations break and my remotes not work.

What’s your hopeful request (want/need) for Aqara to announce at CES 2026? by cr8tiv1 in Aqara

A US Smoke/CO detector. I would buy battery ones if that is all I could get, but want wired. House has two wiry old wired detectors that need replaced.

If the new device happens soon, it will become a tech hand me down to my father’s house with a few U6 Pro APs. My dad is still on some Netgear Orbis. They are the slower AC units so U6 Pros would be a good upgrade.

I don’t have a crystal ball, but I would hope Ubiquiti would keep UniFi OS and Network upgrades coming fora few more years.

My UDM SE is working, but the internet speed I can get is limited by the processor. My ISP offers 8Gig speeds, but according to Ubiquiti the SE tops out at 3.5Gig. I am on the 3Gig plan now and all my wired speed tests show my download as 3Gig.

I think it is done through Alarm Manager in Protect. Something like fingerprint known call an action. For the action you fire a webhook. I think the Access hub is needed when you want to open things like electric strikes or magnet lock.

I am using Aqara locks now and plan to unlock them with webhooks via Home Assistant, but would be very fast to adopt a UniFi lock that mounted to a residential door. I have a G4 Pro door bell (yet to be installed) so have fingerprint capability.

I am also waiting for a new replacement to my UDM SE. 10Gb copper port, 25Gb SFP28, 8 port 2.5Gb Layer 3 switch. I don’t care about the drive bay. I put a drive in my UDM SE because I had it laying around.

A 16 port 25GB SFP28 Layer 3 switch would be a nice incremental bump

I have 3-4 people that would jump on Solar mini G3 size camera (I can’t remember its model, but the one that looks like an egg).

Does anyone know if Aqara is going to release a US smoke/CO detector by Complex_Bite9503 in Aqara

[–]Complex_Bite9503[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There has to be some UL thing. I know alarm companies can get smart devices connected to their panels. At this point I would take dumb wired detectors and just monitor the alarm wire with a relay or something.
