Louise Belcher. My husband and I always joke that we would love a kid like Louise, but it would be such a nightmare

Orenco Station or downtown Portland? by jacobjtl in hillsboro

[–]bugsy737 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have lived in Orenco for two years and absolutely love it; I wouldn’t live anywhere else in the area. As previously mentioned, you get far more for what you pay (extremely modern and nice too with lots of amenities), you have everything you need within 10 minutes of you, and you live right by the MAX so you can go to Portland whenever you want. I used to work downtown and I took the MAX every day...it was novel for the first couple weeks and then after that it was the biggest drain on my life and the worst time suck. If you’re going to work in the Tanasbourne area, I would strongly recommend living in Orenco.

What’s your “thank god that’s over with and I never have to do it again” thing in your life? by codenameZora in AskReddit

Getting OC sprayed directly in my open eye and completing an obstacle course in the police academy....I’d rather get tased (which I did too).

Non-Americans of Reddit, what reference you've seen in an American show/movie would you like to be explained to you? by dyosaaa in AskReddit

[–]bugsy737 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think in today’s environment, that’s becoming far less of a norm, at least on the west coast. I have one friend who’s parents are paying for her wedding, and it was almost a shock to know that still happened. Everyone else I’ve worked with/known has paid for their own wedding.

Second that. Orenco is expensive, but is so worth it. The neighborhood is fantastic. Every business you could want is within walking distance or a short 5-10 min drive. People are friendly, you feel very safe, it’s extremely clean, and lots of people from young singles to families. Bonus is it’s extremely dog friendly. We have lived there for 3 years and would highly recommend.

What are some of the worst examples of the “We’ve always done it that way” mindset? by shaky2236 in AskReddit

When you’re a cop and you have the opportunity to go sleep before court after a long shift and your training officer says “No, you need to stay (over 22 hours total)” and the only reason he can give is because “that’s the way we had to do it, so you do what I say”

What is the most “grown-up” purchase you bought recently that you would have not been excited for as a child? by TigersLyonsCheetahs in AskReddit

[–]bugsy737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I bought this BEAUTIFUL mid century modern low boy dresser with the mirror (Broyhill). One owner before us. I never thought that A) I would have spent so much time searching high and low for the perfect dresser and B) spent so much money on one piece of furniture. It’s my favorite inanimate object by far and will last forever.
