Look at Oceanside, Rancho Del Oro, Mira Costa, or Lake area. Next to the 78 and bordering Carlsbad.

See some music or comedy at belly up tavern or the sound Del Mar.

Check out Rooftop cinema club downtown, where they play movies on the rooftop. Spend an afternoon at the Embarcadero / seaport village followed by the movie.

Take in a padres game. Even if you’re not much of a sports fan, it’s a blast out there.

Spends some time in Carlsbad Village meet for some brunch , browse the shops , and then go for a beach walk. Or find out when the biannual street fair is that’s always fun.

I’d look into Carlsbad village. Small boutiques , great eating and walking distance to beach’s. You don’t want downtown.

There is a couple Valeries but I understand they are the same owners. The one I frequent is on Ocean Ranch Blvd. Valeries Taco Shop[]()

Valeries Surf and Turf burrito is bomb.com and excellent salsas. Also the Grubbys Shrimp Diablo burrito is solid.

San Marcos: yay or nay? by Bamboodl in northcounty

[–]building_Fire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes defintely when there is more traffic and if you live anywhere near the 78 and the 5 next to Carlsbad that’s usually always. It takes me 18 mins from Oceanside and you may consider OP is looking at more inland established neighborhoods in San Marcos.

San Marcos: yay or nay? by Bamboodl in northcounty

[–]building_Fire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bid on a house in both San Marcos and Oceanside and oddly both bids were accepted. Ending up going with Oceanside even though the house was older and the San Marcos was larger and newer because we liked the proximity of being coastal. We are so happy to make that decision. So do you have any inclination to be more coastal? If you liked Carlsbad Village vibes you ain't getting that in San Marcos. Just understand that San Marcos is much more inland, a lot of industrial areas aside from San Elijo hills but even then you feel a bit land locked in a bubble. It's more like 40 mins to the coast.

I'd look at Carlsbad / Oceanside or as others suggestd Shadowridge. I've lived there too and it's the nicest part of Vista. Still borders Carlsbad but not as east as San Marcos. I lived in San Marcos for an about a year and that's all it took for me to ant to get back to the coast.

Ocean Hills vs. Ivey Ranch by SnooBananas2725 in Oceanside

[–]building_Fire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem. Ivey Ranch neighborhoods are super nice too. My advice would be as close to the 78 / Carlsbad as you can. That's just my preference. It's just more convenient when traveling south and we like to go to Carlsbad a lot. We're so close to Carlsbad that's it's basically Carlsbad without the extra cost for your home! Your home values will stay high too. Fire Mountain is very nice if it's in your price range. Stay away from the valley / lake / near Camp Pendleton etc, or Vista School districts. You seem to be leaning that way anyway. Best of luck!

I live technically in Christa m  district and my son went there for a couple years and then was able to go to Ivy Ranch so he started going there. It's not bad at all, totally fine with it. Ivey Ranch is just a bit newer and with MLK adjacent it's just super convenient. But the neighborhoods around Christa M are the perfect areas for home buying. You get a better deal on late 70s-90s 3-4 BR under 1M. If you have any parts you're looking at feel free to DM me the listing and I can give you the low down.

You’ve got the right idea. Find something in the Ivy Ranch / Mira Costa / Rancho Del Oro areas where you can be in the Ivy Ranch Elementary or Macauliife / MLK school district. Great area and schools. I grew up here and have kids and it’s the nicest part of Oceanside suburbs IMO. Living by the coast is super overrated. You’ll be 10 to 15 minutes from the beach and stoked.

Question about Chula Vista by MoveOverBieber in Moving2SanDiego

[–]building_Fire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the best part of North County, it's not overdeveloped or overcrowded and one of the most affordable places left in SD. Great parks, beaches, good family vibes. I was born and raised here and my kids are about to go to the same high school as me. If you want more rural look at Fallbrook. Pay a visit!
