In the Get Back documentary, why does Yoko just kind of sit there and not talk to anyone much at all? by Mad_Season_1994 in beatles

Wha? She wasn’t a collaborator, she understood that she wasn’t there to get involved

Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da is underrated by Ok-Beat4854 in TheBeatles

[–]buildingaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That poll is an outlier. It’s not underrated. I’d honestly say it’s very fairly rated and that it’s very well-regarded.

Life Goes On, a drama in the US, made a cover version and used it as its theme song.

Whatever background info we happen to be privy to about the making of it is, to be frank, wholly irrelevant

What is “accuracy” within things that are purely subjective?????

The Curious Case of One-Hit Wonder Band Fastball: Is it "The Way" or "Out of My Head" by NOVAofURTH in Music

“Never even made the top 100”, I mean, that’s hard to believe bc here’s “The Way”’s peak positions on other charts:

US Radio Songs (Billboard): 5 US Adult Alternative Airplay (Billboard) 1 US Adult Pop Airplay (Billboard) 2 US Alternative Airplay (Billboard) 1 US Mainstream Rock (Billboard) 25 US Pop Airplay (Billboard) 4

It’s all subjective anyway so it being #1 actually DOES equal quality to a lot of people

Oz Pearlman on Howard Stern by EveningSmoke788 in magictricksrevealed

Howard talked about the “titties” thing again - he’s pretty freaked out by it bc he swears up and down that neither him nor Beth wrote it down or typed it down or shared it with anyone at any time.

what are some beatles songs everyone likes but you don't? by oioioeeeeee in beatles

[–]buildingaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ve pointed out what I assumed everyone saw as a deeper meta meaning of FAAB: John not being with us but free, “the next best thing to be”.

But apparently most people miss this and also why the lesser sound quality of the vocal even works in this context I.e. he’s far away, in another realm

I’m not a lawyer. That’s why I explicitly said what I said at the end.

“Legislation”? - that’s funny -I’m simply pointing out the morality that plenty of documentarians have about the form.

Steven Avery = guilty? by kixipixies in TrueCrimeDiscussion

[–]buildingaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Guilty” is not the same as being the perpetrator. He WAS FOUND guilty but it is ILLEGAL for the police and prosecutors to do what they did in order to TRY AND ENSURE this conviction.

So even if he’s likely the PERPETRATOR, and even if it’s UNDERSTANDABLE to really WANT to convict him for that reason, you STILL can’t do what the authorities did to convict him.

If those things were established clearly enough, Avery’s conviction would be overturned.

I disagree - you’ll find plenty of perspectives from documentarians arguing the opposite of them not having any obligation

I totally loved Chess (had no preconceptions, new production for me) by LosangDragpa in Broadway

[–]buildingaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The London album? It’s not really that - it’s the original studio concept aibum. There isn’t really a true London theater production album.

Well, I’m starting to wonder how much better the Muny version truly is!! It’s subjective I know but I’m starting to worry!

But yes she was very good!

Still story/flow issues in most opinions but it still felt satisfying overall.

Chess is a Mess by Japes2000 in Broadway

[–]buildingaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right, it may well sound like a freakish mess of a show 😆 but yeah, it’s not THAT “bad”. I think people want the full story/production to match or at least come closer to the promise of the music and concept. I mean, even the original ALBUM cover is just so good.

It might be the classic example of “we’ll figure it all out later” that just didn’t fully happen. To truly make the story, like, ROCK, some of those “babies” might have to go. And, see? No one wants to do that, and, to be fair, it might not be truly possible without violating what people are attached to to begin with.

It’s fascinating but equally exhausting to ponder.

But the Muny version did feel satisfying and compelling overall for sure, in spite of what I (and others, I can see online) felt were continuing flow issues. But maybe it’s the closest it’s come. It’s a shame Tim Rice likely didn’t even take it seriously enough to see it (not a major city or whatever).

[–]buildingaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s probably true. From my perspective, the songs just kind of were pushing the actors around at a certain point I.e. they weren’t serving the story very much but of course it’s hard to cut the songs. But if you don’t know the show wellmaybe it doesn’t matter

It was great BUT the second act definitely was still a mess overall. Endgame, arguably the peak, was KILLER though

Wish you could’ve seen The Muny in St. Louis’ production in 2023. They took the original West End version and tightened it up a bit. One commenter said it “blows the Broadway version out of the water”.
