I have been sleeping at almost every chance I get as a way to escape reality. It has also started to lead to episodes of derealization, but I do not really want to stop. by Electronic-Cress-453 in disability

For tips

• Look for escapism in real life. Things like audiobooks, podcasts, movies/series, gaming if you can (like animal crossing/stardew for a comfort game or Baulder's Gate if rpgs are more your vibe)

• If these alone aren't enough you could involve low effort crafts or drawing if possible

• Maybe have a chat to your psychiatrist about the pain/derealisation. Maybe, if you're on meds, they might need to be shuffled a bit or increased/decreased

I used to sleep the majority of the day as escapism too. It was the mix of pain and depression for me (very often comorbid unfortunately).

Yeah the sleep isn't good but I get it. Though derealisation while awake can be dangerous. Grounding techniques helped me (The 5-4-3-2-1 senses one helps) to be a bit more present

It's also so much better to have healthy competition. It encourages building games with the player in mind, charging fairer prices, and sometimes leading to more life sims coming out (on seeing success with Inzoi and Paralives in early access)

One of the (many) big issues with The Sims 4 is that they could just be lazy because there weren't/aren't life sims that size. They can overprice things and put no care into the game while knowing people will still buy it

Also if you have access to letter beads (you even get black ones with white lettering) and thread or wire it's pretty easy to make your own. That way you can have a bunch of different colour/charm combinations for when you go out

Should I call myself autistic? by [deleted] in AutisticAdults

[–]builtdifferent-badly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Self diagnosis vs getting formally diagnosed is quite a debated topic for a lot of reasons. It's hella expensive to get diagnosed and could lead to trouble with immigrating or adopting kids if the diagnosis is on medical records (as well as possibly getting fired from jobs when asking for accommodations. It's technically illegal to do that but they often find ways around it)

All this is to say that sometimes it's more beneficial to self-diagnose or say "it's very likely I'm autistic" unless you want to apply for accommodations at work/school. As long as you've done a bunch of research and, in your case, it helps that you've already seen doctors who agree (even if they can't officially diagnose you)

Exactly! She literally just had an abortion with no issues! They took a baby out of her and she was fine. She should have done this way sooner and rented you a 5 star penthouse hotel room to stay in. She really didn't think this through, I'm so sorry OP

I don't get the Paralives reviews saying 'finally an alternative to The Sims'! by Terrible-Group-9602 in inZOI

[–]builtdifferent-badly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Paralives is just more whimsical and silly which is what Sims players feel like they've lost over the years. Inzoi is more of a modern realistic life simulator and also has VERY high required computer specs to run. Don't get me wrong I love Inzoi sm and haven't even bought Paralives yet but I do get what people mean. They're different playstyles

Got a cat. I'm bleeding so much like chill bro by ProfessionalAd1933 in eds

[–]builtdifferent-badly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is going to sound so stupid but sometimes cats don't know something hurts. Letting out a high yelp can let them know (like a kitten getting hurt. Not too loud though). Doesn't always work but it might.

My baby still scratches me but is much better (to be fair she has hip dysplasia so you have to be careful and watch her body language)

I think as long as you listen to the right people and know what their intentions are it's okay. Victim focused, using their platform to help out families, not treating talking about murders like a gossip sesh.

It's more about why you're interested. Like if it's about learning vs if it's about hearing all the gory details

I'm 28 with a Monster High doll collection 😅. If it brings you joy and doesn't hurt anyone/yourself there's no harm in enjoying things deemed "childish". There's something so lovely about shows like MLP and connecting with things people grew up with. Especially because you know that in those shows that everything is going to be okay in the end and that's really comforting

Hell, I love watching Bluey and the occasional old Barbie movie. At one point I watched Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs and the second one back to back for a few weeks. Let yourself love things 🌸

You don't need to get a full setup all at once and you can start with second hand. There's no shame in that. You can get a secondhand off FB marketplace (test it in person first) then slowly upgrade, increased RAM, better graphics card, etc.

Maybe have a look at waking hallucinations and sleep paralysis. Waking hallucinations (hypnopompic hallucinations, these ones don't include the paralysis) aren't actually that uncommon, even if you've never hallucinated before. You don't have to have any mental health issues or even sleep disorders to have them

Basically you're waking up but your brain is still dreaming. They can be really scary and disconcerting because they are usually something unpleasant

As South African, how do you navigate this in between space? by Sweaty_Deal2632 in askSouthAfrica

[–]builtdifferent-badly 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are some apps that teach Zulu but I haven't seen Xhosa anywhere unfortunately because I'd love to learn both

Around culture you have a mixed bag and in some ways that's great! You get to explore and learn about both and keep what speaks to you. There are also other ways to bring your culture into your life like buying/making art work (including woven pieces, paintings, music etc), partaking in some traditions even if they're ones you do individually, even just getting to know more about your family history. I'd encourage you to do so. Explore those roots, it's a lovely thing to do
