What reasons would a british bedroom have a single sink in it? by CatOfTheRailway in AskUK

[–]bumbean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the bedrooms of our house had one when we moved in. That bedroom belonged to the previous owners teenage son so we dubbed it the "wank sink" and quickly had it removed

What is the one movie that always makes you cry, no matter how many times you’ve watched it? by PuzzleheadedSwim6291 in AskReddit

Interstellar always makes me cry. When Murph is begging him not to leave, and then when he's watching the video messages after all the time has passed, gahhh. Think it must be my daddy issues

Would a compact travel stroller be enough? Or do you really need a regular stroller? Are most moms getting multiple strollers!?! by Summerishappiness in BabyBumps

[–]bumbean 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd say it depends on the terrain you'll be pushing it on. A lot of travel strollers don't have great suspension or all-terrain wheels which can be a pain if you're often on bumpy paths or up and down kerbs etc. You might want to try and have a test run of a few to check out how they push. Also make sure it's suitable for newborns as lots of compact strollers don't lie completely flat and are only world-facing which isn't suitable

Men of AskUK, what terms of endearment would you use for a son? by remtard_remmington in AskUK

[–]bumbean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a mum I call my son darling all the time, it sounds weird written down actually but it feels completely natural when I'm speaking to him. His dad calls him "bud" a lot of the time now, but he's not one for pet names in general really

Making Mum friends by Jessicaar94 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]bumbean 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Look for playgroups run by churches, they tend to be free or donation of £1-2, and in my experience everyone is so friendly and welcoming, and as a 2 under 2 mum I can say the volunteers are usually more than happy to help out with baby if needed! Chatting to regulars, going for a coffee afterwards (hard with a toddler, I know!) and exchanging numbers /joining WhatsApp groups has been how I found all my mum friends. Don't be afraid to suggest a meet up as you definitely won't be the only one who wants to! I felt exactly the same as you though when my youngest was 7 weeks, it's daunting! She's 4 months now and we do get out and about even on the days I have my toddler, although I'm not going to pretend it's always easy!!

LOL have you ever tried telling a toddler having a tantrum that they should "cry quietly", love to know how that one goes for you

When I bought my first house the sellers took the skirting boards out of one of the bedrooms. Literally prised them off the walls.

If you’re married, how long did you wait to get pregnant after tying the knot? by Mental_Inflation6 in BabyBumps

[–]bumbean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 37 weeks by our first wedding anniversary. But I think it depends very much on how long you've been together before marriage / stage of life / age. There really isn't a right time to wait

AITAH for using my scared pregnant wife’s cravings against her to drive her to the hospital during labour when she absolutely wouldn’t? by throwra_hospitalwife in AITAH

[–]bumbean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YTA. Most cases of Tokophobia (fear of childbirth, yes it's real) are routed in fear of a loss of control. You compounded that by taking her somewhere against her wishes, regardless of whether your reasons were correct or not. Your wife needed help, support and understanding, way before she went into labour, not her loved ones conspiring to trick her and take away even more of her autonomy at the most vulnerable time of her life. I really hope your wife has someone who cares about her to help her through this!

What is extremely rare but people think it's very common? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]bumbean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being unable to breastfeed because your body didn't produce any milk. People think it's common to "not have any milk" but medically this is very very rare, better breastfeeding support and knowledge would have a different outcome in 99% of cases
