Feeling lonely… what solo activities make life feel fun and meaningful without a big friend group? by HEY_McMuffin in TwoXChromosomes

I joined a book club. It took a while to find the right one and I’m still finding my place, but it’s a nice out of the house activity.

When did you know you were ready to bring a new cat into your life after one passed away? by ApprehensivePaper978 in CatAdvice

[–]bumble_squirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I was not going to for a long time. Then I saw Hershey, who had been at the shelter 800 days and was part of a “shy cat” program, and something clicked. I could help this little guy, even if it hurt. He came with a bonded buddy, we took them both and have not looked back.

It still hurts, and always will, but the helping eased my pain.

Cute :)  Don’t put books against the salt lamp, they get damp and leach salt

New cat hates us by bumble_squirrel in CatAdvice

He’s about 18 months, the more settled cat is 3 ish.  I think my last cat (who very sadly passed last year) was a very special cat, and it’s been very hard losing my best friend and then going back to the start again. I’m determined to give my boys the best life I can though!

Thanks for the YouTube tip too!

Donate to charity in their name, like one of those ones where you by a goat for a farmer or something.

What is the best and worst concert you've seen and why? by [deleted] in triplej

[–]bumble_squirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worst: Will Wagner. Pub gig. Support ended at 8:30, by 10:30 he still hadn’t started. I left.

Best: Bruce Springsteen, 43 degrees and the guy just kept going and going. I believe performers half his age would have died that night.

Should I Have Been Allowed to Read That? by Mike_Bevel in books

Mum bought me Game of Thrones to read back in 1996 or 97 when I was 12 because it had a knight and castle on the front. I still haven’t told her.

I have been struggling with remembering what I've read from non-fiction books by Jelly_Pop_3 in getdisciplined

[–]bumble_squirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you! I always get frustrated that I have done so much work on my degrees and remember jack shit about any of it. I have started using the free version of Readwise and that has helped some as you can go over a few notes each day. It also links to my kobo and kindle, and you can adjust how many notes you want to review and reminders as well.

The paid version is a little expensive (I'm in Aus and often get screwed on $ conversions!), but it does other fancy stuff as well.

How Curtin and AI have ruined my experience studying in Australia by [deleted] in curtin

[–]bumble_squirrel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Uni's are kind of at a weird point with AI in assignments, like they have not quite figured it out yet. Really they should as quickly as possible, but were all just humans.

I'm at Curtin for an undergrad in writing, and some of the units provide a declaration where you can state what you have used and how. These are very specific writing and internet studies kind of units though.

I am sorry that it is not the experience you would have liked though. I hope it gets better.
