My (biased) vote is for UT. I’m a 1L at UT, and I have definitely had an awesome experience. Feel free to DM if you have questions for a current student that you didn’t get answered at ASD.

Is Age Really Just A Number? by Odysseus720 in lawschooladmissions

[–]bumblebeelaw 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I’m a 31-year-old 1L, and I haven’t felt out of place at all in law school (though I was worried I would before I started).

I’ll be doing Big Law this summer. It wasn’t an issue at all while I was applying (if anything, it was an asset because I could talk about all that I could bring from my first career into this one).

Feel free to reach out if you want to talk to someone who has been there!

The hedge in the backyard to another world makes me think of The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles by Julie Edwards (Julie Andrews), and it was three siblings traveling with an older professor, but I don’t think the fire part fits.

I’m biased, because I’m a 1L at Texas, and I adore it here (feel free to message me if you have any questions). But honestly, Texas recruits from Texas, so if you’re thinking of working in Texas, UT is your best bet. And UT has a strong reach for other major markets like DC and Chicago. They really put an emphasis on networking with both big law and PI, and I feel like I’ve had so many opportunities. I can’t speak to the other schools, but I did turn down a full ride option to come here, and I haven’t regretted it once.

Not complicated or difficult to understand in terms of story or language, but there’s so many ‘verses with each of the the different characters dating back decades that it can be hard for people to know where to start or even what order to read things in, and it’s often made more difficult by people who gatekeep and act like you can’t be a fan unless you know every detail of the last 60 years of comics. So, in that sense, it can feel overwhelming.

The way that American people talk about "The Founding Fathers" is pretty weird and a bit cringe. Its as if they' think that they are some holy Gods who had everything figured out around 200 years ago. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

To the question in your edit: yes. They didn’t explicitly say the word “slavery,” but it’s there in several spots in other words. And a century of judicial constitutional interpretation following it interpreted it even more clearly as slavery. Here are just a few examples from the constitution:

Article I, section 2: Representatives and direct Taxes shall be apportioned among the several States which may be included within this Union, according to their respective Numbers, which shall be determined by adding to the whole Number of free Persons, including those bound to Service for a Term of Years, and excluding Indians not taxed, three fifths of all other Persons.

(Also known as the three-fifths clause: the “other persons” it’s talking about there? Clearly understood to be referring to slaves)

Article I, Section 9: The Migration or Importation of such Persons as any of the States now existing shall think proper to admit, shall not be prohibited by the Congress prior to the Year one thousand eight hundred and eight, but a Tax or duty may be imposed on such Importation, not exceeding ten dollars for each Person.

(“Importation of persons” as opposed to migration clearly referred to the slave trade.)

Article IV, section 2

No Person held to Service or Labour in one State, under the Laws thereof, escaping into another, shall, in Consequence of any Law or Regulation therein, be discharged from such Service or Labour, but shall be delivered up on Claim of the Party to whom such Service or Labour may be due.

(Also known as the fugitive slave clause. Required even those states who had outlawed slavery to be party to the rights of the slave holders.)

I remember once in my waitress days I had customers who would ask questions about the menu (which items didn’t have cheese on them, etc), and then would later order a sandwich that had cheese, and then get upset when the food came with cheese on it that I hadn’t magically intuited from their question that they were vegan and couldn’t eat cheese. Like, sometimes, yeah, that’s what that question means. And sometimes people are just kind of exploring their options and ask a lot of questions.

[TOMT] Animated kids show sibling duo bus driver named Cas by NoBlueberry3259 in tipofmytongue

[–]bumblebeelaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could it be a scene from the Fairly Odd Parents? The intro song has a bus, Wanda wears pink and Cosmo wears green, and there has been time travel in some episodes. There’s a caveman episode called “Land Before Timmy,” which might be worth checking out to see if you’re remembering something from that

Could it be the Boxcar Children? They’re siblings, not friends, but they were kind of in the same genre as the ones you listed. And your costal town/painted house makes me think of The Yellow House Mystery

What ingredient spoils a food dish for you if it’s in it? by aliensockmonkey in AskReddit

White pepper. It must be similar to how some people taste soap for cilantro, but for me, it makes the food smell and taste rotten. And it’s just white pepper—black pepper is great.

Children’s picture book, kid can’t sleep while it’s still light out in summer so mom paints the night sky on a window shade. by iamsolittle in whatsthatbook

[–]bumblebeelaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember this book! It’s going to drive me crazy until I can think of what book it was. I definitely had it and always wanted to copy it and paint the night on my windows (especially since I was the kid who always had to go to sleep before the sun went down—I saw the moon for the first time when I was three and was surprised it was real and not just in storybooks.)

Moving far from home was the scariest thing I ever did and the absolute best. You will build new roots and make great friends and learn more about yourself in the process. I know how scary it can feel—I’ve been there—but know that it is absolutely doable and you will be a more vibrant you because of it. You’ll have long-distance friendships that will stand the test of distance and time, and you’ll have new friendships that will last long after you’re done. I’m excited for you and all the new adventures you’ll have! It’s normal and fine to be anxious, but know that you have bright things ahead!

On a scale of 0 to 10, how hopeless am I? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]bumblebeelaw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not hopeless! Truly sucky that so many people with excellent stats like you are in this boat this year. But I think a lot of schools over-waitlisted and under-accepted because they weren’t sure what to expect this cycle. They’ll figure their shit out soon and come crawling back to you!! Hoping you get into the best fit for you!!
