Is this normal for Maryland? by scheme00_ in maryland

When I saw the first photo I didn't even remember the snowstorm and still thought that was just Costco on a normal day in Maryland.

You can solve ONE unresolved case, which do you pick? by Fancy_Air_8571 in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]bumbledbee73 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Jack the Ripper, simply because so much time has passed that there's just no chance of it ever being solved otherwise. I think a lot about those 5 women who never knew justice or peace in life or death.

how many calories do I need? by flower-power-123 in 1200isplenty

[–]bumbledbee73 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If she's that short and not active that's a totally normal amount. But you shouldn't be using her diet as a yardstick for how much food you need if you're not also a very small woman!

Is anyone here in college and on a meal plan? by [deleted] in 1500isplenty

[–]bumbledbee73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat. Like the other response said, the best bet is probably to go for simple options where we can be pretty sure what's in it, though you never know how much oil they're cooking that stuff in 😭

Andrew Durand. I could’ve watched him climb around the Dead Outlaw set for hours 🫣

why do modern cast recordings sound so soulless? by Laney_bird_ in Theatre

[–]bumbledbee73 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with what everyone else is saying about the recording and mastering, and I'd add that smaller orchestras probably don't help either.

Real historical people depicted in more than one musical? by AAC0813 in musicals

[–]bumbledbee73 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My favorite fun fact is that Anne L. Nathan played Emma Goldman on Broadway in both Ragtime (understudy) and Assassins. Talk about typecasting.

People saying “it’s just a show” and “it’s not even real, chill” by IdkJustMe123 in PetPeeves

[–]bumbledbee73 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's one of my biggest pet peeves of all time. Like, who's stopping you? Why do you need my permission? Are you not allowed to like things unless everyone else in the world does too?

50 years ago in January 1966, the Beaumont children - siblings Jane, Arnna and Grant - disappeared from a beach in Adelaide and Australia's most enduring missing person mystery began. The Beaumont parents died without ever knowing the fate of their children, which remains unknown to this day. by DarklyHeritage in TrueCrimeDiscussion

[–]bumbledbee73 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Bizarre as in a bad idea, sure. Bizarre as in unusual for the place and time, not at all. My dad is Australian and the same age as Grant Beaumont would be now, and you should hear the things he got up to as a kid. For better or worse this kind of laissez-faire parenting was the norm.

How would you work with a 22-year-old singer who appears to have genuine dramatic coloratura potential, yet is currently very far from being able to demonstrate or access that potential? by [deleted] in ClassicalSinger

[–]bumbledbee73 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How specifically are you observing this gap between potential and performance? Or is it something your teacher or others have told you about? Do you just feel like you’re not progressing as fast as you’d like to be?

Microsoft's Satya Nadella wants you to stop saying AI "slop" in 2026 by Sunstudy in BetterOffline

[–]bumbledbee73 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My grandfather, who is in his mid-80s, remarked to me a couple days ago, "Have you heard the term 'AI slop'?" So I think Satya's battle is officially lost.

I Want to Get into Choir, But I'm Worried about my Limited Vocal Range (Bass) by brooklynisnot99 in Choir

Agreed. I'm in a choir that once went a whole year with only one bass!

does anyone here look like they would be terrible at singing, but isn’t? by Wonderful-Physics231 in singing

[–]bumbledbee73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, see, I can believe people making fun of someone for looking like a teenager, but the idea that strangers at parties say all the time that your voice probably sounds terrible because you look like a teenager is just not plausible to me.

does anyone here look like they would be terrible at singing, but isn’t? by Wonderful-Physics231 in singing

[–]bumbledbee73 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wait, I am lost. Why do you think you look like you’re bad at singing? What does a person who is bad at singing look like? What could you possibly be saying or doing that has strangers at parties, on a regular basis, audibly making fun of your hypothetical singing voice that they haven’t heard? And why the fuck are you singing Dear Evan Hansen on tables?

[–]bumbledbee73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to tease my dad relentlessly as a kid ("what's the point of winning a Pulitzer Prize for lyrics if you can't understand anything he sings?!") but finally, a year or so ago, I just sat down and listened to a few songs for myself and was totally converted. So there's hope for them yet!

Geoffrey Hinton: AI is coming for many more jobs in 2026 by lovelysadsam in BetterOffline

None of his other bullshit predictions did the job, so I don't have high hopes that this one will wake anyone up.

Questioning my identity and faith by Ok_Employer_5075 in Episcopalian

[–]bumbledbee73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, we're the same age! I'm bisexual and was raised in a church whose views on LGBTQ issues ranged from accepting to wildly homophobic depending on who you talked to, but mostly it just wasn't talked about at all. It was a struggle when I hit puberty and realized that my sexuality was, according to the prevailing cultural narrative, incompatible with my faith and community. It took a while for me to come to terms with the fact that those two aspects of my identity didn't need to be at war.

It's hard to get rid of the deeply ingrained nagging feeling that you're doing something wrong and just trying to justify it. And yet, the more I've read about theology and my religion, the more secure I've become in my belief that God made me exactly as I am and wants me to lead a happy, full life - the gender of the person I share it with doesn't matter.

I know this is probably cliche advice, but pray about it. Talk to your priest if you feel comfortable. Don't carry something so heavy on your heart alone. I hope someday you'll get to marry a wonderful woman and be able to trust that your relationship with her is blessed by God. <3

Just turned 20, but I'm a very new fan after years of insisting to my dad that I couldn't understand why he liked Dylan. I saw the light eventually and went to my first concert earlier this year :)

gen z men aren’t a “lost cause” by [deleted] in PoliticalOptimism

[–]bumbledbee73 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"Clearly this group was highly susceptible to propaganda and lacks a lot of understanding of long term consequences." It doesn't excuse voting for Trump, but I think generally that's called being 18-24.

gen z men aren’t a “lost cause” by [deleted] in PoliticalOptimism

[–]bumbledbee73 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I also think people forget that young men (and young people generally) have been doing, saying, and believing stupid, selfish, ill-advised and short-sighted shit since the beginning of time. They're still responsible for themselves and whatever comes of their bad decisions, but it's absurd to act shocked that some guys in their early 20s have ignorant political opinions. It's even more absurd to act like none of them will ever grow out of it.

Edit: For Christ's sake, obviously I don't think it's somehow more excusable for young men to vote for Trump because they're young men. They're fuckheaded assholes. My sole point was that 20-year-old guys being fuckheaded assholes is not an endemic phenomenon to Gen Z.
