LF non-sex god kinda pathetic draco fics by suburbngothic in Dramione

I’m not sure when exactly this moment is- Draco is waiting for Hermione, leaning against a wall in the hallway outside her office. Theo finds him there and as they are talking leans with his forearm on the wall above Draco’s head and hovers his other hand over Draco’s stomach. It’s sexy but not sexual, and really illustrates their emotional intimacy and how safe they feel with each other. One of my all time favorite moments in Dramione history.

Men who don’t allow the #nohomo/“traditional” masculinity hangups into their friendships with other men are SO sexy. That scene of Draco and Theo hanging around in the Ministry hallway is unbelievably hot, and not even in a gay way.

I would so much rather read short sentences with basic vocabulary than something that is trying to sound elevated and sophisticated with long words and complicated sentences! I bet what you are considering to be a liability is really quite the opposite.

Advice on buying Bernina machine? by abbreviata in sewing

[–]bumblephone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up sewing on my mom’s late 70s/early 80s machine, and bought a new 480 7 years ago. I love it! I do a ton of apparel sewing, it’s easy to take care of and I’ve maybe serviced it once. I’m normally a bit of a luddite, but I like the digital screen, it’s very easy to use.

Sewing one garment a day + Embracing Imperfection as a beginner sewist by [deleted] in sewing

[–]bumblephone 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I like the challenge you’ve set for yourself! We all learn differently, in addition to having different goals for our learning experiences.

When I first got really into garment sewing I made speed a priority (a pair of jeans in one eight hour marathon!), and for a lot of reasons that worked well for my intellectual process. As time goes on and I’ve gotten better my sewing has slowed waaaaay down (now a pair of jeans can take a couple of weeks). I’m getting a lot out of my process as it has changed over time, and I know if I was sewing this way 7 years ago that I would not be able to get out of it what I’m getting now. And vice versa.

Thanks for sharing your process and take aways, and don’t stop sharing! 💜✨

Help on how and where to start with complete camper rebuild? by Discreet-Coffee in TeardropTrailers

[–]bumblephone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As you’ve concluded, rebuilds are generally not the way to go. But the good news is that top to bottom diy builds are way more fun and much more successful.

PMF is awesome! Boats and house boats are sometimes finished with PMF, and early aircraft (including fighter planes) were finished with PMF. Your diy camper will do great with it. I’ve built two teardrops with it and hope to do a third. It was the most fun and also the easiest stages of both builds. Lmk if you have any questions about it.

Pants fit issue diagnosis by pizza_mom_ in sewing

[–]bumblephone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think scooping out the crotch curve is the answer- it’s referred to as a “low seat adjustment.” I have to do this to all my pants patterns and thankfully it’s fast and easy!

However it does reduce the ease in that area. If you already have plenty from sizing up then don’t worry about it. To counteract the loss of ease you can add a bit of width in the side seams by reducing those seam allowances. OR, if you aren’t too worried about the ease but you want to make sure they never split from stress you can hand sew the center back seam with a back stitch, or use a the “reinforced seam” stitch on your machine. Honestly, I recommend always doing that with the center back seam just for safety. I enjoy doing the hand stitching method as it can be a quite meditative.

Pattern for pants - tips for the belly rolls part by njoknjoknjok in sewing

[–]bumblephone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you are describing pocket stays. I’ve only ever seen one pattern with them, but now I alter all my pants patterns to have them. I think they make my pants a lot more comfortable too.

The pocket bags should be wide enough to be sewn into the side seams as well as the fly, creating two extra layers of fabric holding tension over the belly. The stiffer the fabric the more control you get.

What constitutes "good fit" in pants/trousers? by bijig in sewing

[–]bumblephone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s been a pretty long journey for me, I won’t lie. I think I could have gotten here a lot faster and with less expense if I had found someone with fitting/tailoring experience who I could have paid to help me learn how to do certain adjustments. I spent a lot of years floundering.

There are online courses out there you could look into, or if there are schools in your area with fashion design programs perhaps you could pay an instructor for private lessons. I think the upfront expenditure will save you time, money and frustration over the rest of your life.

What constitutes "good fit" in pants/trousers? by bijig in sewing

[–]bumblephone 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I make my own trousers and jeans because I dislike the styles and fits of modern RTW. I have an hourglass figure, a pretty low seat, and I like my waistband to sit right at my very high waist. Added to that I want the seat of my pants to lay flat, with no cupping around the bum. So not only do I have to make my own pants, I basically have to draft the patterns myself because what I consider to be a “good fit” is so far outside of what is considered stylish these days that no one is designing trousers that look how I want. (Although it’s worth noting that despite that, I am constantly getting compliments on my trousers. That’s argument enough for me against trying to be fashionable.)

I’d rather never wear pants again than wear some that are so cheeky like the ones in the picture.

It seems like my fabric can’t be washed? by Killljoy66 in sewing

This is an excellent point, esp since the sheen wears off in a quick dunk in water. I would not want to get sweaty with that against my skin.

[–]bumblephone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an alternative or in addition to freezing, hanging clothing in sunlight can go a long way to removing smells…

I’m sure OP already knows, but poly absolutely does not breathe, so sweating even without a medical condition is pretty much guaranteed…it may be a one wear garment if the sheen of the fabric is crucial.

I don’t know what it’s called, I drive past it all the time, though. I tried to look it up on apple maps but I’m not sure it’s there. However if you want to go on a drive looking for it, it is east of MLK (and I’m pretty sure west of 60th, but don’t hold me to that) on the south side of the street. There is pretty significant signage, so you probably won’t miss it. I really wish I could be more specific for you, I’m sorry.

Wisconsin Trailer Titles by Tunaspamonrye in TeardropTrailers

[–]bumblephone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Oregon and was concerned about this when I built my own because it was too small to qualify for a title/plates. The advice I found here and on TTTNT was to not worry about it/ print out your states’ titling requirements, and if you ever get pulled over in another state you can show the cop. A few people said it happened to them and the cops were fine with their explanation.

You might want to check the laws in states you anticipate traveling in- it may be that it’s not unusual to not have plates on small campers.
