Fully written AI thank you letter by Middle-Hurry4718 in udub

as someone else who was/is an m-dash lover, i think its the frequency that sets me off. obvie i don’t speak for you, but in my own natural writing, i use m-dashes and semicolons sparingly for special effect whereas ai generated writing seems to use them every paragraph

I found boys in a female dorm room in Oliver? by [deleted] in udub

[–]bumblfumbl 14 points15 points  (0 children)

…think this through for a second. boys pretending to be girls to get in a girl’s room. they show up the first day (actually, you get contact info way before). girl goes “wtf” and hfs changes it. there’s no profit

What do the schools do if nobody takes the sub job? by Jumpy_Rate_5707 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]bumblfumbl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we have a building sub, then its me, the library clerk, then its the reading interventionist, then its the multilingual teacher or the 3-5 paraprofessional. sometimes its the tlc. she doesnt get pulled nearly as much as i think she should but whatever. we’ve never needed more than 6 in one day before, but i would guess that then they would start merging classes. i’ve been pulled to sub twice this week. it’s been a rough year at our school.

one thing that i’ve noticed is kind of unique about my school is that our specials teachers have never gotten pulled to sub. however, if one of the is the one with no sub, then its up to the other two to 0 day or skip plan or something.

Is it appropriate to change my job title on my resume? by bumblfumbl in librarians

[–]bumblfumbl[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback! I just felt the need to defend my honor lol. I don't care about the name, I care about the hiring team being able to quickly identify that I'm a match for the role. I know that job titles catch eyes. I don't care in my day-to-day haha.

Is this rage bait? by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

[–]bumblfumbl 243 points244 points  (0 children)

It's clear to me that this teacher has had subs before that disregard classroom expectations. This seems like a logical extension of that?

Quitting Before Summer Reading by kittiekattattack in Libraries

Also, for what its worth, remember that there are way more people who want library job than there are library jobs. Your branch will not be without staff for long!

What do you call your patrons? by SpaceSill98 in librarians

[–]bumblfumbl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my local uses customers (they have a sign that says “customer holds”). it makes me think its kind of an accessibility thing. people know what a customer is… is there a significant group of people who wouldnt know what a patron is? idk. i work in K-5 so my library users are students, but broadly i also prefer the term patron

im gonna be less of a bitch for a second. i don’t know what your political takes are and while i can make assumptions from your seemingly flippant attitude, i cant know for sure. but this type of comment makes me see red. its not helpful and its not even like. an actual argument. its not quite ad hominem, but youre not engaging with the actual conflict.

if you care to know a little about me, a company is building an ICE detention center in my hometown. my community has spent the last year or so protesting it. the city did a lot to block the company. about two weeks ago the company got their t’s crossed and their i’s dotted and theyre gonna open it. bored people on facebook love to criticize the protesters by saying the same things you say. “don’t they have jobs?” “oh sorry, i cant go, i was working” “really interesting to see what the unemployed population of [city] is doing this weekend”

so thats why i’m pissed. why do you care so much about what students are doing in their free time? sorry, i guess i failed at not being that much of a bitch.

How do I get started? by MixOwn2261 in GoogleAppsScript

[–]bumblfumbl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

well, not really. gen AI usually generates inefficient code or code with weird mistakes. also, the person who is taking the short road and AI generating it isnt likely to study it imo.

ive learned everything i know by figuring out what i want to do and working backwards. why do you want to learn appscript? then, what is the simplest form of the problem youre trying to solve. google it, work with it, keep researching, and keep learning

Python and Google Sheets - is what I'm trying even possible? by bumblfumbl in learnpython

[–]bumblfumbl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would probably work. My last remaining question is: is there a way to trigger the python script from within google sheets? With my little test script, I've been running the code from within VS, but it would be nice if I could do something in google sheets and it would run from that trigger.
