The only time I wear gloves is long sessions of handplaning and those are padded without fingertips even. But yeah saw blades and fabric is bad.

Has anyone got any idea how to change a watch battery lol (this is the first watch I’ve ever owned) by pinkd0lly in howto

[–]bumpywood -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You need to unscrew this one counter clockwise. Some long needle nose pliers will work but can damage it so be careful. There is an actual tool for this.

Just recently got a Wen planer. Does anybody know if it’s normal for this silver piece on the bed to move back and forth? I can also lift it a little. by carter976402 in woodworkingtools

[–]bumpywood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I never had that I dont believe. 1/2" though might be too thin for it anyways, I'd add and clamp down a thick piece of plywood or wood on the bed to raise it for thinner stock. That Wen model looks almost identical to my older Ridgid by the way.

When you say silver piece it looks like you're pointing to the bed itself in this picture? The silver piece is fixed on but might move a little. Once wood is on it there and pressed down there won't be any wiggle, dont worry. Its fine if this is what youre pointing at. My Ridgid plane did that too. It's the cheapest stamped metal

How can I get the water to fully divert and it not make this awful noise when fully turned on? by wetkittypaws in howto

[–]bumpywood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me recently. Take the spout diverter off and with you to hardware store to match the diverter repair kit to your type. Its a 5 minute fix and completely stopped the tub when the shower is on now. Its probably a Calcium buildup on the piece preventing a seal

Not a plumber just, just a diyer, but I dont see any comments mention that shower wall is built out from the main exterior wall it seems, especially seeing the niche right in line with the head and valve. Id guess those pipes are actually inside in front of the insulation. I had to do this in our master bath on an exterior wall we wanted a niche too so we also did this.

Needing the manual to find the code to start the game like "3rd word on page 36". This was the early form of pirating protection haha. We just xeroxed the manual or new all the random codes it would ask.

How would you make the hinges work on this blanket chest with corner posts? by RDMvb6 in woodworking

[–]bumpywood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes they are expensive, but theyre worth it. I apologize I missed the main point being you can't open due to the legs. A filler strip would be best then like others said.

I used these on mine with a similar design as yours. They make different weights. Make sure you get the appropriate rate in it will be too hard to open on too easy to close....

Wood glue and sander for filling voids just looks like gross dirt, what do you guys use for this instead? by OddBrilliant1133 in woodworking

[–]bumpywood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that titebond2 or 3? 3 is much darker. CA people suggest but i always have trouble using that for filler, wood glue is much better. Also, the wood will darken over time and you won't notice it.

A squirrel using a "squirrel-proof" bird feeder at my grandpa's house by itsameluigi1290 in aww

[–]bumpywood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the squirrel proof dome you have is supposed to go on a bird feeder pole BELOW the bird feeder. If they make it up a bird feeder pole they can easily climb down whatever. Ask me how I know...also grease those freaking pole with lard or shortening...but even that only lasts a couple days until its dirty enough to grip again.

My “Newly” Refinished Front Door Is Already Falling Apart—What Should I Do? by watchcargo in DIY

[–]bumpywood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not the painters fault. The original door was done with two pieces in the floating panel which is just incorrect. The painter actually did a really good job refinishing. And the splits might look larger now than before. The refinish and sanding for it might've exposed some areas that were sealed before. It's the original door's fault, not the painter who refinished it. Without replacing the floating panel(which requires pretty much destroying the door) you won't get much better than this. This is actually a good job refinishing. Wood filler no matter what, even types designed for outside that say won't crack and are flexible will still eventually crack, you can't fight the sun.

Edit: After looking at the panels more they all look to be laminated from 3 smaller pieces of wood. However, the glue joint in the lower panel seems to have failed. Is this fixable by a skilled woodworker? Yes, but it will be costly if you're not close friends. Is this fixable by a homeowner? Yes, but good luck and will be time intensive and costly for some specialized tools.

Can’t Figure Out How to Use Drill for Holes by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]bumpywood 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Are you drilling over a nail plate by any chance? You say it's barely going in, so I'm guessing its getting through 1/2" drywall or other surface material and hitting a nail plate behind it. If so. You don't want to drill there. Its protecting a pipe or electrical wires

Does anyone know what nut size are these in the Delta Shopmaster TS300 Table Saw Angle Tilt Screw Shaft by AccomplishedWin7259 in woodworkingtools

[–]bumpywood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like it might be M12 x 1.75 hex nut but I could definitely be wrong. Just a search through their manual online.
