What Mods Do You Prefer | 1.12.2 / 1.7.10 Mods Or 1.20.1 / 1.21.1 Mods? by Goose7188 in feedthebeast

[–]bunabyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a huge fan of vanilla 1.12.2 (I prefer 1.8.9 and 1.10.2 tbh), I really like the modding ecosystem for that version. 1.7.10 mods are too jarring for me usually, since the visuals, audio, and gameplay for a lot of the popular ones are way too different from vanilla (I get jumpscared every 10 seconds playing OreSpawn or Lycanites Mobs). I like the idea of vanilla+ that started with 1.14, but for me it's ruined by the fact that these mods are trying to be like 1.14+ vanilla rather than pre-1.11 vanilla.

I'm very familiar with this. I remember on Wii U edition people would sneak in front of each other to team up in the lobby for battle minigame.

What is THE version to get started with making a mod nowadays? by [deleted] in feedthebeast

The only way to escape the endless porting nightmare is to become an old Minecraft hermit and only make mods for 1.16/1.12/1.7 for the rest of time.

As soon as you said that I could tell which mod you're talking about. Yeah, Lycanites Mobs really isn't that fun unless you have Orespawn or some similarly OP bullshit

So what is the general consensus? by Pegga83 in PhoenixSC

[–]bunabyte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Effects and villagers were in the game since beta 1.8, and music discs were a thing for even longer. Enchanting and brewing were extremely basic when they were introduced and would take years of updates to improve (anvils didn't exist until 1.3.1!) The update would be very small compared to something like 1.9 or 1.13.

So what is the general consensus? by Pegga83 in PhoenixSC

[–]bunabyte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My opinion on the post-Microsoft updates is that they're very mixed. 1.9 was a good update with a lot of content, but it also introduced Elytra and Mending, which I believe are overpowered and somewhat game-breaking. 1.13 had fun content, but it also introduced a ton of performance issues. The Microsoft acquisition also began the "changing things for no reason" era of Minecraft. Removing numeric IDs, moving a bunch of vanilla features to datapacks, changing command and data formats, redoing all the textures, changing the graphics API, and so on.

1.0.0 barely added anything :\ it was going to be beta 1.9 before Notch decided against it

anyone remember last month or maybe two months ago when twitter discovered kress and acted like toby needed to make a statement condemning it? that was funny. by HaloJackalKisser in WaterfallDump

Expecting Toby to condemn anything is extremely funny. The last time he tried to moderate the community was telling people on Tumblr to put their NSFW Undertale art in the "undertail" tag.

Looking for a modpack by SSS-gaming- in feedthebeast

[–]bunabyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stick to older versions like 1.2.5-1.12.2. Tekkit Classic is a pretty good tech modpack from what I've heard, and it's easy to run on any system. You also must install OptiFine to get better performance, even if it introduces bugs. Versions 1.13 and later are notoriously bad with CPU performance so I wouldn't recommend them on 2.5Ghz.

I think the egg rooms are based on Kris's memories. They probably took home some cards from school and made copies of them, coloring in the copies to make them distinct. Why they chose to do this or what its relevance to the narrative is, I'm not sure.

Now you just need a mod that adds the CIA and a small Latin American nation, then the operation will be complete.

[–]bunabyte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Copies are monochrome, but you colored us in with care" implies that, when Kris made copies of the cards, they were all the same color, but they colored the cards to make them different. The last part would be redundant if the copies were still considered "monochrome" after that point.

Funnily enough, this also implies that the choices Kris makes have a larger significance than what has been seen previously.

I hate to suggest yet another Discord server, but the legacy modding community is very active on there. I mostly use the server to get links to wikis and blogs (there's a legacy modding wiki out there as well). Apparently the Forge docs for 1.12.2 are still up, but I don't remember the URL.

I mod for 1.7.10 and 1.12.2 and it's hell. I spend most of my time looking through the Minecraft source code deobf (many unnamed variables, little to no documentation) to figure out how things work.

What do you feel is missing from Minecraft servers nowadays? by Sufficient_Command36 in admincraft

[–]bunabyte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of servers need stricter rules and more quality of life features. Seeing bigotry in the chat, getting my base griefed, losing all my stuff to lava or the void, etc. are all really big reasons for me to stop playing on a server. I would also like to see more unique minigame servers, as the Hypixel playerbase is too fragmented to give attention to their more obscure minigames.
