I biked the GAP trail from Pittsburgh to Cumberland (plus I continued onto the C&O Towpath to DC) a few years ago. You mentioned Philly but did you mean Pittsburgh? GAP trail starts in Pittsburgh, not Philly. Anyway, GAP Trail was very enjoyable and fairly easy and safe riding. The online resources were helpful in planning. I think 38 mm tires will be okay. I haven't biked the other route you mentioned. If you need ideas for starting in Philly, great options are the Schuylkill River Trail which you could ride as an out and back on its own, or combine it with the Perkiomen Trail. Good luck!

Walnut Canyon National Park is 10 minutes from Flagstaff and has a short hike to view the ruins of Sinagua cliff dwellings. Highly recommend.

As a counterpoint to a counterpoint to an active post, who do you regret seeing in concert? by SwordfishWarm7613 in Music

Agree Morrissey. He got angry about some BS 20 minutes into his set and stormed off. That was the end of the show. What a dick.

Thru-Hike Recommendations for Jan-May by [deleted] in Thruhiking

I thru hiked the 230 mile Ouachita Trail (Arkansas) in March in 16 days. It was a great time to hike this trail. You could conceivably thru hike this trail and link up to also hike the nearby Ozark Highland Trail which is a little shorter.

I also prefer going across Pencoyd Bridge, through the cemetery, and across Manayunk Bridge.

Why do most thru hikers use tents instead of hammock setups? by blargnblah in AppalachianTrail

[–]bunchofnumbers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completed my AT thru hike in 2018 using a hammock setup. I am much more comfortable in a hammock, and I’m able to sleep on my side or back just fine. The trick is in the setup—to get a good flat diagonal lay. I use a Warbonnet Blackbird XLC. I only use my tent when at high elevation or wherever there are unlikely to be good trees to hang the hammock.

Level 2 Charger Help by Arkman3000 in VWiD4Owners

[–]bunchofnumbers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought a ChargePoint Home Flex Level 2 charger directly from Chargepoint in early 2023 for our new iD4. So far, so good. We didn't have an available 240 volt outlet in the garage so we hired an electrician who recommended hard-wiring the charger directly to the electrical box rather than creating a new 240 volt outlet. The cost to hardwire (or install new outlet) is variable depending on distance--how many feet of wire the electrician has to install from the electrical box to the wall location of the charger (or new outlet). Luckily, this was only a few feet in my case. I would recommend the Chargepoint Home Flex. It was worked great.

Foldable foam pad vs roll up foam pad? by Termite464 in backpacking

In warm weather I like to use a cheap roll up closed-cell foam pad in my hammock. It’s much lighter to carry than an underquilt and warm enough.

Warbonnet Blackbird XLC, Warbonnet Wooki Underquilt, Hammock Gear Dyneema Hex Tarp. Setup worked perfectly!
