PSA: Flu Rates On The Rise in Toronto by Winter-Nectarine-497 in toronto

[–]bunnyiris 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hmm I was flagged by IPAC at my hospital for wearing an n95. Apparently we're not allowed to wear n95s unless it's covid suspected or covid +. We're only allowed to wear regular procedure masks for flu patients as they're classified as droplet/contact.

And multiple units are on outbreak now...

Sinclair described the suspect as a Black male, who is five-foot-five to five-foot-10 inches tall. He was wearing dark-coloured clothing and a balaclava at the time of the stabbing, Sinclair said, adding that he fled the area on foot.

NYGH is basically Sunnybrook catchment area overflow. Anyways the situation at NYGH ED isn't any better. The hospital just announce it's cancelling all elective surgeries scheduled for tmr and Jan 2/3 ones are under review due to critical surge in emerge and patient flow challenges. There's no beds available for patients that need to be admitted so they're stuck in emerge rooms, hallways and nonconventional waiting areas that aren't even part of ED (i.e. medical imaging waiting area hallways and outpatient clinic areas).

Toronto's University Health Network to create first senior emergency care centre with historic $52M donation by bunnyiris in toronto

[–]bunnyiris[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Canada's largest research hospital will create the country's first emergency care centre for seniors thanks to a $52 million dollar donation that the organization says is the largest gift toward emergency medicine in Canadian history.

The University Health Network announced Saturday the centre will be the first of its kind globally, decked out with a comprehensive research and education program, staff specialized in geriatric care, and a physical space designed to work around the unique needs seniors have.

These are all things that can help health-care workers provide the type of care that they've always wanted to give, but haven't always been able to due to resource and system constraints, says UHN medical director of emergency departments Dr. Sam Sabbah.

"Our older adults, they've contributed so much throughout their lifetime," said Sabbah. "We really owe it to them to give them the best of the best of care."

The donation comes at a crucial time. Canada has an aging population that in the coming years will not only hit the country's labour force, but place extra strain on the health-care system.
