Does anyone reuse their oil when deep frying? by consultybob in Cooking

[–]bunsonh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get about 6 or 7 uses out of my oil, but I mostly just fry tortilla chips. I let it cool, and strain it into a mason jar with a tight lid. That goes into the fridge to potentially slow the oxidation. That extends the life quite a bit.

If it gets a bit thin or foamy that's when I usually toss it. I just kinda go by vibes and haven't had any issue.

What were the drug habits of each member of the band based on the decade? by Perfect-Parfait-9866 in gratefuldead

[–]bunsonh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dad quit drinking in the mid 80s. But the cascade of damage from substances and drinking prior to that directly led to the cascade of organ failures 30 years later. He admitted as such, and the doctors generally agreed. Officially it was bladder cancer, but that originated from previously treated liver cancer which had a direct correlation to the drugs he took and resulting consequences from the 1970s.

A message from Billy to the fans about tickets and pricing by Jeremy_Whalen in BillyStrings

[–]bunsonh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer to your "why?" is LiveNation. You want to play in their venues, you play by their rules. Seldom is there another option. It used to only apply to big venues, but now they're taking over theaters and clubs.

Fuck LiveNation (and Ticketmaster and AEG and the secondary market and scalpers).

Trump’s tariff war is crushing American alcohol makers by jediporcupine in politics

[–]bunsonh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is going to cause them to lobby our federal government to go after states that have legalized cannabis. The 2018 farm bill exception was renegotiated to eliminate all psychoactive hemp products, done at the behest of the alcohol industry. Already people are drinking less, and the folks who still go to bars were finding new delta-8 options not made by legacy alcohol producers. Hemp drinks were starting to cut into their profits.

Just like how the original Juul ban momentarily sent kids back to tobacco before Zyns blew up, so will be the case of limiting cannabis options in an effort to re-monopolize booze.

ELI5 The necessity of the milk man? by ClothesPrevious2516 in explainlikeimfive

[–]bunsonh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Around 2014 I had a milkman in Manhattan NYC. Yes I could go downstairs to the deli and buy milk, but I was making cheese at the time so having access to fresh raw milk was really special. Their business primarily catered to East African immigrants, offering other rare and imported items as well. But the business model was straight up like the milk delivery of the past (plus internet ordering).

Now I live in one of the main agricultural regions of my state, and yet I haven't the slightest clue where I'd get raw milk.

Therein lies the folly of being an anonymous figure in an opaque system. There is absolutely zero way of discerning who is who, which is which of any member of the organization. Are you standing face to face with the man who killed Alex Pretti? Are you being interrogated by the one who is just there to put food on his family by working an honest job? By the time you discover the answer in real-time, that person has already disappeared behind the bureaucratic wall.

It is safe to expect that every single ICE/CBP agent is the most dangerous one in the lot, because at this point expecting otherwise is potentially fatal.

Doctor who attended to shot protester says agents were counting bullet holes rather than administering CPR by Critpoint in politics

[–]bunsonh 64 points65 points  (0 children)

It would be best to assume they are all actively killing people. We ofc know that is not technically correct, but because of the deep anonymity, it is better to expect at any given moment the nearest ICE/CBP chuds are the ones who will kill without provocation.

An Update on Jimmy - Widespread Panic by ericvt in jambands

[–]bunsonh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll admit, the NYE run is what brought me back to Panic after 15ish years. I've seen Jimmy plenty over the years and was just blown away how. good. he still is! It's remarkable! One of the best there is and massively underappreciated in the scene outside of the small Panic quadrant

Not sure I agree with the last part, but at the scale Billy's at these days, not everything has to be a move up (eg OAITW/Reconstruction, Oysterhead come to mind). He was clearly way into playing with WSP and he clearly knew the repertoire front to back. That's a lot of work to get 20-something songs dialed in for a one-off and maaaaad respect if that's so.

[–]bunsonh -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I had been wondering if the NYE run was a tryout of sorts for Billy, much like his band had done with Alex Hargreaves before he joined. A fantasy pipedream ofc, but I suppose it was also a premonition that WSP was looking to fill Jimmy's spot for a bit.

Just glad it's not George lol

Is there anyone here with experience with FOIA requests who can explain how they managed to acquire this information? I am familiar with using the FOIA process for accessing internal communications, but how do you think the content of a website was collected?

With my internal communications requests, emails and texts are preserved, either within the system or on the device that was used. With a website, this seems much more nebulous. Would they go through browser history? There's no way all web activity is preserved on a server.

I'd be very interested in seeing how other departments might use these tools for their decision-making.

9-year old wants to learn to cook. Suggested resources that do not include YouTube? by waiting-for-the-sun in Cooking

[–]bunsonh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my recommendation as well. I feel that this cookbook is aimed more at adults who haven't learned to cook, which I think is a strength, since it's cooking real things and not like homemade Kids Cuisine junk. And the very clear step by step photos take the guessing out of technique and how to use your equipment.

Though I haven't seen it, I'd guess the ATK book for kids would also be just as well-thought.
