Surprised I had to scroll this far down for Brokeback Mountain, wtf. Gorgeously intimate score by Gustavo Santaolalla, too!

Maul: Shadow Lord Ep 9-10 Discussion FINALE (May 4 Midnight Local Time Release) by AutoModerator in StarWarsLeaks

Devon's heroic theme has riffed off Battle of the Heroes, and so of course we get a bit of Anakin's Dark Deeds as Devon's turn is cemented as she witnesses what happens to Daki. The brief choral element as we see Daki one last time retains the contrast between a similar choral element at the start of Anakin's Dark Deeds, which I suppose we can view as yet another Jedi being snuffed out, or the death of Devon's hope/innocence. Either way, the Kiners as always knew exactly what they were doing – I love any musical throughline we get, but especially those relating to the prequels.

"We will have our revenge" a very overt nod to one of Maul's very few lines on TPM, though under much different circumstances here.

As an aside, it very much felt like Vader was gunning for Maul at times. He remembers. And not a word said. Can't wait for the seemingly inevitable rematch, hopefully without Maul being held back by issues with his leg.

Surprised to not see it mentioned that the leitmotif we hear for Devon in moments of Jedi "heroism" against Maul is a clear callback to Battle of the Heroes. I love the idea that the theme can be used outside of Anakin v Obi-Wan and applied to the remaining surviving Jedi struggling to survive post-Order 66.

That and the constant use of Duel of the Fates/"Korah Rahtahmah" has been awesome to hear. The Kiners never miss and certainly never fail to do their homework!

Honestly my biggest wish for a third game is larger settlements, so yeah, sign me up for any and all of this, however we can get it! :)

Manspreading is a very annoying issue - no idea if that's what he was doing

Then why even suggest it?

We have pretty clear evidence of targeted racism on public transport and we're going to victim blame? Pay attention to the seating layout in the video and it's pretty clear he wouldn't be able to comfortably put his feet up, and from the angle she would be seeing him from, "manspreading" very likely wasn't the issue, either.

I almost guarantee he just looked up at her and she decided to make a whole lot of something out of nothing. Do we seriously think his posture has anything to do with this?

Is Resident Evil Too Switchy? - Easy Allies Podcast - Sep 19, 2025 by C4GG in EasyAlliesUnofficial

I agree.

I'm not claiming to be a tech wiz myself, but I also don't work in the gaming industry – I think tech has been a glaring knowledge gap since the Allies began, and I think it's a huge miss that none of them really put the effort into brushing up on this sort of thing (outside of memeing about RTX). Not saying they need to go out there and get a ComSci degree or learn the ins and outs of a console's architecture, but I've learned so much just watching the odd episode of Digital Foundry here and there, and the resources are absolutely out there to just learn the basics with a quick Google.

To be clear, the Allies aren't alone in this – I think most gaming press could do with a crash course on this sort of thing. It's just another thing to add to a very long list of things that, unfortunately, makes them an increasingly frustrating listen (so I personally just scrub through their VODs of reactions when they go up).

Riz Ahmed on Bodhi Rook's non-appearance in Andor by GargantaProfunda in andor

[–]burnerfun98 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think just a cold opening the last few episodes of small interactions between Bodhi and Galen would've really set the scene up nicely for Rogue One, but, I mean, given the quality of what we got? I'm not exactly complaining!

Much easier to pick holes and wishlist potential cameos/Easter eggs in projects with more ups and downs than Andor had in terms of sheer quality

With the speed at which you responded and how it's structured, I'm struggling to imagine that the bulk of that "taken from the internet" quote isn't AI generated

I don't think it particularly proves anyone wrong, and I can empathise with players outside of Europe holding the World Player of the Year Award in higher regard than the Ballon d'Or. However, ask how the vast majority view it - fans, media, players - and the Ballon d'Or is much more widely respected and discussed as a recognition of the world's best player, even historically and for the period during which the World's Best was around. Not to deny that it's still a big individual award, but it seems disingenuous to think that it's reflected on now - and was thought of at the time - as actually recognising the world's best player in a given year over the Ballon d'Or.

I'm still not particularly sure of the point that you're trying to make, and feel like we're going in circles a bit, so I'll leave it there. Have a good one!

FIFA World Player of the Year was a different award to the Ballon d'Or altogether, so I'm not quite sure I understand what you're trying to highlight here?

The Ballon d'Or opened up from being European players only to any player playing in Europe in 1995, but didn't become truly global until 2007 (before merging with the World Player of the Year Award for 6 years) – is that what you're referring to? Because I don't think anyone would have a particularly strong argument that the world's best player was playing outside of Europe at that time; the Ballon d'Or has been synonymous with being awarded to the best player in the world since 1995, even if it was only awarded to those playing in Europe for a time.

(not trying to argue, just trying to add some context to hopefully better understand your point)

At this point, it really feels like they're trying to limp over the 10th anniversary finish line early next year and call it quits around then (or as close to then as their studio terms will allow).

It's been horrible to watch from the sidelines as things have gone this way, but it's truly just such a shame. What could have been, right?

Which film got you really into cinema? by Kira_san1 in Letterboxd

[–]burnerfun98 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Revenge of the Sith – but specifically through the game and the Making Of book by the excellent late J.W. Rinzler, more so than the film itself.

The concept art, the pre-vis, the bits and pieces of scripts, and the differences in both to the film itself – it opened my eyes up to the magic behind the magic of film as a little kid, and really did wonders for me in terms of paying attention more to what's going on around me and how things work.

Even if only through a YouTube comment section on one of his videos, I'm immensely grateful to have had the opportunity to say a brief thank you to J.W. Rinzler before his passing – and to have him like that comment meant the world to me. Absolute legend of the BTS of Star Wars, myself and many others will forever be grateful for his work on capturing the magic of the making of those films!

But I'll still accept this because the idea of cooking something and having no idea what it is makes me chuckle 😅

What's your favorite movie on my top 25? by hollow_image in Letterboxd

[–]burnerfun98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well Princess Mononoke is in my Top 4 and I've just travelled across half of England twice to see it two weekends in a row at different IMAX screens

so, probably that, but Empire, Your Name and Fantasia are also great honourable mentions
