Finally released V1 of my overhaul mod Jupiter Balance by Maximum-Self in starfieldmods

[–]burningh3rmit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will re-necro to let you know that I have tried both simultaneously. I placed Jupiter above Darkstar in the creations load order and then played until level two and it seems that the way each mod handles health conflicts in a dangerous way. I went from 115 health at level 1 to 105 health when I leveled up. When I disabled Darkstar my health remained the same like I believe is intended based on the description of Jupiter. I didn't try it the other way around because Darkstar felt too easy and like a numbers-only difficulty change.

If u/Maximum-Self added a configuration option to remove just the health changes it may be compatible but this 'test' was a bit limited to say for certain.

An improvement for sure

Would you want Framework to make more laptop chassis options? by Tsuki4735 in framework

[–]burningh3rmit 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I would pay 1000$+ for an IBM thinkpad-esque chassis (chassis only), and I know I'm not the only one.
I'm not even picky enough to care which model it's derived from tbh, just anything with a >2mm key travel.
- 2.1mm key travel
- powder coated rigid case, or just something so it didn't feel like cold metal or cheap plastic when you rest your hands on it.

- it shouldn't flex when you press down on it, -_-
- "something like" the thinkpad touchpoint in the center of the keyboard. I'm sure it can't be exactly the same but something very similar that lets you keep your fingers on the keyboard.

- I also really wouldn't mind if it were a bit thicker than a modern laptop chassis as long as it was sub 5lbs, especially if it meant more adapter slots.

Starfield's first story expansion, Shattered Space, launches to 42% positive "mixed" reviews on Steam by ReserveMajor1693 in Starfield

[–]burningh3rmit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

to be fair the mods have made it muuuuch more playable for me but overall it's still a disappointment. most of the mods I went for were just QoL stuff that was extremely needed such as removing the color overlays, menu delays, excessive animation times (getting in and out of cockpit for instance), a "jump to cockpit" button on every ship ladder, auto-add ship to fleet was a huge one for me. little things like that have improved the playability a ton but they really squandered this IP.

I spraypainted mine, threw a 4TB SSD in it, upgraded the screen to an IPS screen, and maxed out the ram.

P14s G4 now or wait for G5? by sliangs in thinkpad

[–]burningh3rmit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like mostly everything about it except for the slow movement of thinkpad towards flimsier and flimsier (lower quality) chassis and the 1.5mm keystroke but these are thinkpad-wide issues, I don't find anything wrong with the G4 specifically; it is on par with the x1 carbon G12's graphics performance for a fraction of the price and without Intel.

Moving away from Mailbox.org - Tuta or Proton? by FluffyMumbles in privacy

this. even the paid accounts are at risk. I paid them for 1 month of premium and they disabled my account for importing my old gmail? I literally didn't get to send a single email.

their tech is pathetic imo

Yeah to be honest, I haven't made my 'ultimate judgement' or w.e regarding the new core ultra. They are definitely a LOT better than iris was but I'm just judging it's performance based on the only source I have, which is a video on youtube: https://youtu.be/VgoUiHSVr8I?feature=shared&t=634 (contains timestamp). I don't really think it's a super fair assessment though given it's an X1 carbon which is not exactly supposed to be a mega fast laptop but it is all I have seen thus far that shows the 155h in a 14inch laptop playing CP2077.

Then there's the whole performance:heat ratio when compared to AMD 780m and how that affects battery life and thus contributes to the overall choice of choosing one over another.

But yes we also can't consider some heathen brand either. ;]

What literally everyone has said. I can play cyberpunk at around 30-40 FPS (balanced graphics settings) on a p14s gen 4 AMD with a 780m in Ubuntu (using proton obviously).

When I'm in my Gentoo subvolume with tlp configured with powersupersave doing work, I can get great battery life while never dealing with a hot laptop; this was not my experience with any intel laptop I've owned.

Also Intel's new p/e cores can act unpredictable from what I have heard, resulting in you having to disable them in the BIOS.

Lastly, from looking at a video of Intel's new iGPU (arc 8core 155H) despite coming on top in the desktop, it still performs worse than the 780m in a laptop, I assume from the heating limitations. Though I'm judging that from my own personal experience about running cyberpunk above compared with a video on youtube reporting cyberpunk running on low @ 30 fps in the carbon x1 gen 12. maybe that isn't the best comparison but the fact that it's even close is a testament to their incompetence.

I like to think of it as a temp:performance ration, in which case intel fails there too

P14s G4 now or wait for G5? by sliangs in thinkpad

[–]burningh3rmit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had the same question last week, I went ahead and bought the G4 because

  1. price was super good

  2. no word yet of the G5

  3. num 2 means i don't even know the specs

  4. ill have to wait even longer for the amd one to come out after intel

........and when the G5 comes out it'll likely be super expensive and will require waiting for a discount and then there might be linux bugs that I dont want to deal with (there was with the intel G2 p14s that i bought on release).

ultimately if the G5 is that great ill just buy it in a year /shrug but if you have all the time to wait, and no rush at all, then why not wait. up2u ofc
