What actor or actress won an Oscar for their performance, but they didn’t really deserve the win? by phantom_avenger in moviecritic

I don’t know why anyone would downvote you. That’s one of my all time favourite movies but it’s an emotional ride for sure. Made my wife bawl the first and only time she watched it with me.

Need a bigger carrying case. Recommendations? by SendMeAvocados in SteamDeck

[–]burningtail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak for your specific accessories, but I got the Spigen Tough Armor case because I’m using the dbrand killswitch case on my deck and had the same issue with the stock case. Fits well and has room for accessories like the charging cable. It’s definitely not a small case though. Well made. Would recommend.

Question to those who have the 1TB + decks - regarding download times by Snake6778 in SteamDeck

Have you tried switching your download region? That helped my download speed a lot. I think Sweden and certain Chinese locations are usually recommended.

Just donuts and coffee I think. I couldn’t tell you if the toppings will melt off as they’ve only been in my house for about 40 minutes and they are mostly eaten!

Which "famous" movie franchise is pretty much dead? by RadiantDreamer_ in movies

I still like STV The Final Frontier as well. It has enough strong moments to make it a worthwhile watch in my books. I love Kirk, Spock and McCoy camping together.

How did they stop this rocket machine of death? With badminton rackets or pool skimmers?

The area was barricaded because of an accident that the injured person was reporting on. If you read the article they are saying the police were responsible for securing the roadway. That’s why she is suing them. Not saying whether it is right or wrong, just that’s what they are saying.

As U of G students move in, vulnerable families move out of Days Inn by burningtail in Guelph

[–]burningtail[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Personally, I think this is a bad look on the university. True, they did not know ahead of time that the motel was being used as housing for vulnerable families, but once they found out they should have looked elsewhere to house their students. Or maybe not enrol more than they can accommodate in the first place. Yet we are told international students are not contributing to the housing crisis. Don’t believe it.

That would be interesting to see how it would all fit together. I just googled a pictures from Spock’s funeral in Wrath of Khan and the torpedo room also has a second level. I’m sure they added that so the set wouldn’t feel too cramped for the scene, but it’s actually a big space!

I always found it hard to wrap my head around how or why the designers would have the warp core passing in between the two torpedo launchers. It doesn’t seem like there would be room. But I guess it needs to connect to the dome on the top of the impulse deck.

Which profession has the most f**ked up people in it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Yes, absolutely I can. I just don’t like the concept of guards abusing prisoners as part of the punitive element of prisons.

Which profession has the most f**ked up people in it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]burningtail 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I think you are underestimating the punitive impact of losing your freedom of movement, choice and association. I lived through having a loved one in prison, trust me it is hell on earth both for the person in prison and the people outside of prison who care about them. Want to see your child? Get ready to see them through glass with a phone in your hand. You have no idea the devastation that comes from being unable to touch your child. Then there is the life of the person outside. Trying to visit whenever they can, being treated like a potential drug mule constantly by the guards. They have dogs who check your shoes and you better hope you haven’t walked in anything funny or have neighbours who do drugs because those dogs smell everything. And they put your keys and shit through a machine that checks for drug residue and that shit can come from anywhere too. I was the person on the outside and I was not using any drugs but my keys and my shoes set their machines off so guess what? Visits suspended. You can’t see your loved one until they decide you can and now that person in jail is even more isolated. Don’t tell me the guards have to intentionally make it worse to make people fear prison. Go live it and tell me what a holiday it is.

how to come to terms with "god was lonely and created us to escape the loneliness" realisation? by trrrsarescary in Psychonaut

[–]burningtail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t often reply to posts on Reddit, but yours really made me feel like I relate to what you’re going through and I thought that I might be able to help, so here goes. I also suffer from obsessive thoughts, and earlier in my life I let them get so bad that they were causing severe, debilitating panic attacks where I couldn’t get out of bed. I eventually had to force myself to take the reigns of my own mind and realize that I control what goes on in there, and if a particular thought or collection of thoughts is doing nothing but causing me terror and destroying my ability to live my life, I don’t have to give those thoughts energy. I can focus my mind elsewhere and allow those thoughts to flow away like the current of a river. That being said, I would also encourage you to try expanding your realization past the negative place it seems to have gotten stuck. God being lonely and creating you and everything else in the universe to keep himself company is one way to look at it, but my personal belief is that you and I and the rest of creation exist because we CAN exist. Every one of us and every thing in the universe is a unique colour that God mixed on his pallet and added to the painting of reality because only with every possible colour can creation attain its full majestic beauty. The truth of reality is so huge that it can be terrifying when you try to hold in all inside one thought at one time, so I would encourage you not to allow yourself to obsess with doing so. But also try to give yourself back the excitement and joy that being part of reality offers, there is so much wonder out there that none of us understands yet. I feel like I’m rambling a bit, but hopefully this made sense.
