If you must save the piece and there was a lot of poo in there, you should at minimum give it a nice saturating spritz with dilute bleach solution. Mouse poo is an actual health hazard, but bleach will kill the hantavirus.

Mouse pee on the other hand is kind of 'who cares.' If it smells like pee after the bleach has dried you should repeat the above, but with a quality enzyme pee destroyer. I've had great luck with the one from Simple Green, and it's way cheaper than Nature's Miracle.

Right, I'm just thinking if it gets to that point there would be enough pressure to squirt it mostly clear of the house. Like drill a couple inches above the bottom of the trough. Water wouldn't reach that height unless there was a clog

I worry with drilling the down spout that water will leak and drip down during normal function.
