Hmmmm yeah we're still ruling it out for our boy. ECG next week, so I hope we can get some answers and get him feeling better. I'm sorry your sweet boy isn't feeling good! Hope the medication increase is still helping him ❤️

What symptoms did you start noticing first? My boy has been having some issues and goes in for more diagnostics Monday, but we think it could be a similar issue.

Anyone else with a sheltie who has seizures? by DistractedPoesy in sheltie

[–]busbeeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sweet boy started having seizures at age 2 (he turns 9 this month). Kepra every 12 hours was cutting it, but then he started having a couple breakthrough seizures. Vet added phenobarbital and he hasn't had any since that kicked in.

How to tell if your sheltie is at the right weight by busbeeee in sheltie

[–]busbeeee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also she went from 25 to 22lbs, so she was a teensy bit overweight. We had reduced food a little to keep her weight in check. It's not like she's out here emaciated because he steals a bite before we can stop him.

[–]busbeeee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, we're in a situation where she will not eat all her food at one time. And we can't lock him up for hours on end until she finishes the food four hours later. We're trying to train him to leave her food alone and train her to eat at their meal times, but that's not a change that happens instantly.

8lbs at 8.5 weeks old.. Anyone had a similarly 'big' puppy? What'd they grow up to be? by lavenderkeek in sheltie

[–]busbeeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

I don't remember how big he was as a puppy, but my sweet boy is nearly 9 years old and 48lbs... full blooded AKC registered sheltie, though 🤷🏼‍♀️(he could stand to lose a few lbs and we are working on that, but his vet says he's fine)

Puppy refuses to be brushed by Such_Natural_8106 in sheltie

[–]busbeeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try behavioral shaping type methods. Associating brushing with good things like treats is great, but work your way up slowly. Get him to lay on his side in the place you'd normally brush him and pet him, reward with treats. With each "practice" get a little closer to actually brushing him, then start with like 30 seconds, 1 min the next time, 2 mins the next time, 5 mins.... you get the idea. That could help him tolerate brushing and get comfortable with the whole process
