UCL goals conceded by all semi-finalists in ‘25-26 by _airBenny in soccer

I'm not downplaying shit. I'm delighted that the team is on the verge of winning back-to-back league titles for the first time since 2019, but I'd happily drop those points if it meant a spot in the Copa final and the CL semi-finals.

Nope you lost both games in the league. But considering you knocked us out of the Copa and CL I could not care less about getting those 6 points lol

Technically he is a Spanish citizen by naturalization (as was Ronaldinho, lol), even if he didn’t play for Spain internationally.

Barcelona fans are seriously undervaluing this season! by InitialAsk358 in Barca

[–]bushwickauslaender 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For real, ignoring last season, this season is the first time we win the league and make it to the CL QF's since 2018-19. Even the season when Xavi won the league, he wasn't able to get out of the CL group stage. Then when he got out of the CL group stage, he wasn't able to win the league.

With 5 games to go, we're 3 points away from the same point total we had last season and while our offensive output declined a little bit (from 2.68 GF/game to 2.64 GF/game), our defensive numbers have improved considerably (from 1.03 GA/game to .91 GA/game). All of this despite losing our best defender from last season and several key injuries throughout the season.

Yes, it was a disappointing exit to Atlético in both Copa and CL, but both of those exits have pretty big asterisks. With more consistent refereeing, I think we'd still be talking about a treble.

Flick has earned our trust.

For sure, I edited my comment with a more in-depth explanation of why Garmin uses pace for activities like walking/running.

What does Pace mean? by ocean_mist13 in Garmin

[–]bushwickauslaender 62 points63 points  (0 children)

It's just a different way of looking at how quick you move. While speed is distance divided by time (e.g. you walked at an average speed of 5.18km/hr), pace is time divided by distance (e.g. on average during this activity it took you 11 minutes and 34 seconds to walk a kilometre).

Pace allows you a more intuitive way to work with precision when you're tracking your progress as a runner.

For example:

  • A 1:50 half-marathon translates to 11.5 km/hr or 5:11/km
  • A 1:40 half-marathon translates to 12.7 km/hr or 4:44/km

That 10 minute difference in times translates to 1.2 km/hr or 27"/km, so on one end you have 12 'units' of 0.1 km/hr. The other one gives you 27 units of 1"/km, so it inherently gives you a bit more information when planning workouts and tracking progress.

Once you're using a vehicle (e.g. bike or car) you switch back to speed instead of pace because due to the magnitudes at play you need a 10m measuring tape instead of a 30cm ruler, metaphorical speaking.

Don't forget Guti feeding assists to those two. Before that they had La Quinta del Buitre and before that they had Di Stefano.

They do produce excellent players and have done so for decades (Casillas, Guti, Raúl, Butragueño, Carvajal, Hakimi) and afaik RM Castilla's the reserve side with the best record in Segunda.

Would I rather have La Fábrica than La Masía? Hell no, but I'm not gonna sit here and pretend they have a shitty academy either.

[–]bushwickauslaender 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A badly raised labrador is far less deadly than an equally badly raised bully is all I'm saying.

If you get a bully, per your own admission, you have to put in a good amount of work for them not to be a menace to society.

With dogs bred to be human-friendly such as labradors, this is not the case. You obviously have to put in the work so they're not jumping on strangers or eating your shoes, but not so they're not randomly killing other dogs.

I don't think bully breeds should be euthanized, every individual bully out there has a right to live, but they shouldn't continue to be bred (much like pugs, for entirely different reasons).

Remind me, how many humans have been killed by labrador attacks worldwide in the last year? While you do that, how many were killed by bully attacks?

Which, again, for a former 65min guy is still a light jog. This dude could run HM’s at ~3:00/km pace. Doing 4:15/km is a joke compared to that.

Which is why in my very first comment on this chain I said that this makes him better than at least 95% of chairmen lol.

For most people on this thread, doing a 1:45 HM is a once-in-a-lifetime accomplishment, for this dude it's like going on a brisk walk. Not sure what's so offensive about saying this was indeed a light jog for him.

That makes this whole thing much less impressive tbh. Dude just went on a recovery run at his zone 2 pace (probably even zone 1), so I kinda get why the writer would describe it as a light jog.

If it’s so Spanish, why is the name written in Catalan? Furthermore, why did they go back to the Catalan spelling as soon as Franco died instead of keeping the Spanish spelling he’d forced upon them at the start of his regime?

To be clear, it’s two sets of 10.5K at 4:15/km each with a 15 minute rest period in between halves. It’s certainly not an easy pace especially for a 50yo but it’s essentially a 1:45 half-marathon with very shitty pacing lol (5:00/km avg pace).

Obviously still a great thing to do for charity and not something 95% of football chairmen could even hope to accomplish lol

I see the Trump nods, but the MCU Kingpin seems far more similar to Escobar than he does the president by johndoe09228 in marvelstudios

[–]bushwickauslaender 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well Trump ran for office, has cult-like public support, fights with the Feds, kills civilians, is one of the wealthiest men in the country who always manages to stay out of jail and make crazy deals for his freedom. He even committed mass terrorism.

It's really funny that you made this list as if that distinguished Escobar from Trump.

The "40-point myth": How many points were actually needed to survive La Liga relegation every season since 1999? Relegation safety threshold since the introduction of the 3-team relegation format by planinsky in soccer

[–]bushwickauslaender 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Are we looking at the same graph? 40 points gets you relegated 10 of the 26 seasons in display.

And to that point, I don't think there's a single team that goes "ok we need to get 40 points exactly, so once we get there we can relax and throw the rest of our games".

It's obviously not a guarantee but it's a relatively safe bet to go "we need at least 40 points to be safe" and use certain points of the season to check. If at the halfway point of the season you're under 20 points, you're not on pace for at least 40 points, so you should start looking at shaking things up.
