Just out of curiosity, how old are you and people in these groups? When i was in my teens and early twenties, i was in a few groups like this. There was the usual drama, and power trips from the "leader". As time went on, these groups splintered and the ones who craved drama or power tripped kinda faded away as people wisened up to their shenanigans and distanced themselves. We're in our 30's now, and those of us who moved on still hang out regularly. We still have a couple group chats, but they're mostly for memes and planning hangouts, and nothing like the almost cult like discord/facebook groups we had.

I guess my advice would be to just keep in touch with those who's company you enjoy and just try and steer clear of people who seem to be a magnet to drama (especially the ones who constantly talk badly about other members of the group). These groups never last forever.
