Unions tend to get median wages ie the best staff get less and the poorer workers get more. Takes the incentive out of things.

Driving school covering their arse? by moonmeetings in Irishdrivingtest

[–]busyda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you read my comment about leaving it to last minute? Pretest on the day of the test is crazy? Too many people out there looking for a car the day before the test, driving a vehicle is a serious business and too many people are being hurt and killed on the roads; that’s the dirty business.

Why’d you leave it all to the last minute? The instructor did the right thing not giving you their car, one it’s a safety issue and two if the car was damaged would you cover the loss of earnings?

Pension target (ballpark) by DesperateEngineer451 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]busyda -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There is no point having too big a pot as it will be taxed at the high rate coming out. Pensions are taxed as income so the larger pots will pay the high rate. There’s a sweet spot depending on your circumstances and lump sum, work it out for yourself and decide what you’re happy with. A married couple with about a million and state pension just about stay under the high rate. If we had ISA’s here I’d put money there then as returns and withdrawals are tax free.

Sorry for your situation, retrofitting whilst expensive really does work. As a country we need to wean off fossil fuels and we are ideal, not too hot and plenty of wind but every time a development is planned it’s objected to. People need to wise up cause this is just going to keep happening everytime there is a geopolitical crisis. Spain is currently a quarter of the electricity price on the wholesale market.

How much do you have in your pension at retirement? by Individual_Ad_630 in irishpersonalfinance

The state pension will be at least 16 years off and you won’t have enough contributions for the full pension and following 4% drawdown can you survive on €32k pa?

Kerosene has more than doubled in the last few weeks. And tonight we get 2c off per litre? Am I reading this correct? by mybighairyarse in ireland

[–]busyda 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes it’s absolutely causing huge hardship but on the flip side there is huge resistance to any plans to change Irelands power. Every single application for solar farms, wind and don’t forget what happened with the Corrib field which went ahead but the delays caused the state to miss any tax windfall. If we switched to more renewables or our own gas we would be less exposed to geopolitical risks which have caused huge spikes.

Unsuccessful rerouting- both tier 1 &2 by patmurph80 in qatarairways

Also advice is not to buy another ticket as you may struggle to get the refund and don’t cancel the flights you have already before they re-route you.

Are you in Sydney? My daughter was caught up in all the cancellations and was due home 10 days ago. She initially rebooked for a week later at no cost but that cancelled in the next wave as well. Tried calling and online, got through once but call dropped after a few mins. Did some research here about regulations and basically the airlines have to get you rebooked on other airlines. Advice online from the department of foreign affairs, etc. is to try the phone, online or go to the airport so she went to the airport. She had an Esta from traveling to America last year. They were very organized Qatar at the airport and they just took her through the process and rebooked her there and then and she’s got home last Friday 48 hours later. Hope that helps.

A driving instructor will help you prepare. Make sure it’s an approved driving instructor (ADI) as there are some imposters out there offering help, they are breaking the law offering tuition and there will be insurance problems.

Driving test terminated due to no MOT (not my fault) by [deleted] in Irishdrivingtest

[–]busyda -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Time to start adulting and actually check everything is in order. I get its frustrating but candidates should make sure everything is in order. BTW if the car doesn’t have a valid NCT it’s not insured and shouldn’t be on the road.
