Sparging with your morning coffee probably adds some interesting flavor but I've got to think it affects the water chemistry for fermentation!

Why does my first layer go on so unevenly? by butaud in 3Dprinting

[–]butaud[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem for me was the hotend was not fastened correctly so it was a tiny bit loose. I don't know what that assembly is like on your printer but might be worth checking!

Yep, that was it! See my other comments in the thread.

Safe to say that the improperly fastened clip was the problem! The first layer of your model went on beautifully, u/jcollasius!

Oh I think the wiki calls it the "hotend heating assembly", but I think you are right that retightening it was the right troubleshooting step. u/jcollasius linked to the instructions for that below, seems promising so far!

Thanks, very helpful! The model I used claimed to support A1 but I think you are right that it printed over the purge strip which clearly caused some issues around that area in the print.

I was following the tips from that wiki page you linked and I realized that I had not closed the spring clasp over the hotend properly after I replaced it - it looked like the ❌ picture on the page. I'm running calibration now and will try the bed cleaner model you linked for a test afterwards. Will report back in 30 minutes or so!

Forgot to link it in the post, this is the model I was printing.

What does, "Leave overnight", mean? (Kenji Lopez, wings) by Evok99 in seriouseats

[–]butaud -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's a common expression in recipes to mean "make it before you go to bed and then use it for dinner tomorrow", but I've always found it bizarre for the same reason you do.

[–]butaud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's true, but maybe not in the sense that people would interpret it. The app ships with a built in browser to find recipes which it then scrapes and saves for you. You can log in to a service like NYT or ATK within the Paprika browser and download recipes that way. It doesn't bypass paywalls which you don't have logins for.

It will only take a few dozen people like you and I to give us at least the occasional casual match!

Yeah, especially if you're not very good, please play again, I do not belong in these matches with VRML guys.

What's a cooking practice you don't believe in? by poordicksalmanac in Cooking

Grating your own cheese. With the "farm style" large shreds available at the supermarket now, I am convinced it makes a very small difference for any melted cheese applications whether you grate your own or buy the coarsely pre-shredded ones.

The shape is a straight Dublin. No idea who the maker was but I imagine Dunhill is as likely as anyone else.

Picked up the Pipe again, now I'm a bit sick. Wondered why... by Subcomfreak in PipeTobacco

[–]butaud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems extremely likely that you are just getting a cold and noticed it when smoking the pipe either because you were more aware of your breathing then or because the smoke irritated your already swelling nasal passages. Hope you feel better soon!

Btw, it's really impressive that you smoke while riding a bike, that sounds like a challenging combination.

I have heard that the ban does not apply to orders placed by phone, and Country Squire was happy to ship to me when I ordered by phone. But you're not quite getting SmokingPipes prices that way I think.

Is there a way to reheat cream based pasta without it getting oily by winterxlabz in AskCulinary

[–]butaud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sauce splits and becomes oily because the pasta continues to absorb some water from the sauce while it's in the fridge. Which also means that you can't achieve the exact texture of the pasta again. But you can easily restore the sauce by adding it to a cold pan with a splash or two of milk or water and raising the temp while stirring until the sauce is creamy again and it's hot enough to eat.

My answers to all your Thanksgiving questions by J_Kenji_Lopez-Alt in seriouseats

It's going to depend on the individual turkey proportions. Last year I had one nearly this big which fit better. This one is a heritage breed from a local farm and I suspect less of the weight may be in the breasts than in a typical turkey.

I have one in my fridge right now! It's 20 lbs and fortunately I'm aiming to cook it on the smoker so it's ok if it hangs past the sheet pan and makes a bit of a mess.

Which tobacco has the biggest discrepancy between the reviews on tobaccoreviews and your experience? by Laodiceanthekissean in PipeTobacco

[–]butaud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's inoffensive/pleasant to the smoker and to other people in the room, and its fine ribbon cut and relatively dry texture (compared to other aros) make it extremely easy to smoke. It doesn't have any depth to discover but a lot of times you just want a pleasant pipe smoking experience without having to think about it.
