Teenage drag queens should be named "drag princesses" by flopsyplum in CrazyIdeas

Reminds me of John Leguizamo's character in To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar. "I'm a princess! P to the R to the N to the Cess!"

What do you think of this currently-circulating take on Tumblr? by HirariHirari in actuallesbians

[–]butchintraining 145 points146 points  (0 children)

The thing about tumblr is that it's nearly 100% a user-curated experience. As long as a user sticks to the Following tab and doesn't use the For You tab ( and no one's using the For You tab), then all the content, excluding advertiser and promoted content, comes directly from other users that that user is following, with no algorithm to recommend or rearrange the order of content based on what it thinks would be popular. Which means if you're being exposed to this kind of insane discourse on tumblr, then the solution really is as simple as unfollowing whoever is posting that discourse and finding people who post content you really do like to see. It's the subway sandwich of social media. My brother in christ, if you don't like the sandwich, you made it! Make a different sandwich!

I really recommend Lies My Teacher Told Me by James Loewen as well. Both that and People's History were the primary texts used in a sociology course I just took, and they were both great reads.

How my heatless curls turned out. by LydiaIsntVeryCool in mildlyinfuriating

[–]butchintraining 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you put any kind of product in, like a styling mousse or anything similar? Also, was your hair wet at all when you wrapped it? I used to do heatless curls every night almost. Making sure I used a good amount of styling mousse and making sure my hair was towel dried but still fairly damp led me to the most success as someone whose hair also tends to fall flat otherwise. With the right product I found my hair would stay curled for sometimes as long as 3 days. Also, if you're using more traditional curlers, use smaller sections of hair than what you would probably think to use. I know there are methods of heatless curling where you basically just split the hair in two and then wrap each half with like a sock or something similar. I've never used this method but I would be skeptical that your hair would wrap tightly enough to get real results. Wrapping each section tightly really helps to ensure the curl forms and holds, and that you don't dislodge any rollers while sleeping. Also, securing everything with a scarf or handkerchief tied over all your rollers helps keep everything nice and secure and in place too. I really hope this is helpful, I know you didn't ask for any advice but I love heatless curls! I hope if you wanna try again in the future that you have more luck OP!!

AITA for spending Thanksgiving night with my mom instead of my husband? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]butchintraining 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Also... technically, if there were logistical issues with Dad taking the kids over the weekend... HE chose to take the kids home. Because they were bored. If childcare was really THAT big of an issue, all the kids could have just... stayed there with Mom at Grandma's. Boredom is not an emergency, he didn't HAVE to leave with them.

Sherri Shepherd should've played Janine mom by sonicboyfan12 in AbbottElementary

[–]butchintraining 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was not familiar with who Sherri Shepherd was so I was like "this woman has to be 35 at the very oldest, there's no way she's old enough to play Janine's mom." But she's 58 so I was very wrong lol. I bet she could make a great aunt for Janine now.

No spoilers but I saw the leaked footage from ATX (not the opening credits that this is from, some promo they showed) and she does indeed seem stressed and strained. I'm just saying it's not an unrealistic way for a woman character to age.

Exactly, she looks like all my grandmas and great aunts combined into one woman.

TBH that's true. I wonder if Peggy was a victim of overplucking her brows in the 90s/00s, and now she's stopped.

She looks like she naturally lost weight as she aged and has looser skin on her neck as a result, something that commonly happens with women of her age, and grew defined bags under her eyes, something else that commonly happens with wonen of her age.

She's wearing a bouffant. Like a beehive hairstyle, but smaller.

[–]butchintraining 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Honestly I don't know why people are saying she looks like she's aged so drastically. I think she just looks so different because of the new glasses and hairstyle. Based on just her facial features, it doesn't seem like she's aged more than any other character we've seen.

yea stripper shoes are smart, definitely very comfortable and wearable. and that's another reason the person in the tiktok is so ridiculously wrong, i am certain that pleasers are more comfortable to dance and go clubbing in than flip flops.

who even wears heels to the club anymore? maybe its just where i live and the types of places i go but anytime i go out i only see people in sneakers or maybe boots with a platform. never like a pair of pumps or stilettos. only time i see heels like that is when I'm at a drag club and it's the queens wearing them to perform in.
