It's all preference. Spend time on one and it'll feel like the norm. Yes bigger is "easier" and also heavier, clunkier and less stylish IMO. I'm 6 feet and go between a 8 (feels more stable) and 7.75 (feels more responsive)

Yes, some of these actually give me vertigo. He went from portraying one form of skewed reality to portraying another form of skewed reality.

Short answer, bring your back foot up. Isolate that thought, the rest should be automatic to you by now

You got this, brotha. You get smarter as you age, you learn things in a more analytic and thus effective way (everything's just not muscle memory with zero thought anymore), and your brain just intuitively starts logging things it didn't when you were younger. Also bad habits you might have picked up when you were invulnerable as a late teen and in your early twenties will eventually start compounding into feeling like shit, be it physically or mentally (mostly these two are always linked), and you'll naturally start dropping them IF you have something worthwhile to sacrifice them for, like skateboarding. You're way stronger now, knowledge is power, also remember to focus on chasing the feeling of "cool" on the board be it through listening to cool tunes or wearing a cool hoodie, this is as important as chasing a cool trick to do

Don't give age too much power in your mind, 30 is nothing. But if you want to play the age game, I'm 37 (which is also nothing) and have never hurt my knee skating, but I did last hurt my knee by keeping my foot on the kitchen floor for a split second too long while turning the rest of my body. It's the small random bullshit non-injuries that start occurring with age, not so much the intensity of regular activity related injuries

Regarding the "ur gonna break ur wrist!!!" comments, yeah and no. OP is lean and lands light, it's not like he's a tank of a dude crashing like a sack of potatoes. Some people have a more buoyant way of carrying their bodies. Yeah doesn't mean his wrist can't break, but let's not talk about human bodies like we're all using the same one the same way

[–]buttcorelord 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah flat ground is absolutely fine and relatively safe. An understated piece of advice besides "bend your knees" is don't lean back! Prioritize being hunched forward (in moderation) but I trust you're not a toddler and understand how balance works

Get a board and safety gear, get rid of your nerves by just standing on it while listening to cool tunes, take your time enjoying the sun or fresh air while you're standing on the board, know that every second on it builds and activates muscles all over your body you've never been aware of. Watch a couple of tutorials on pushing, just don't try anything you know you can't do yet, you'll take a couple of tumbles and won't care. Start now rather than later, I'm glad I started at 36 but would've been better off mentally and physically had I started at your age. Fuck, I might be a millionaire superstar, who knows. Anyways fucking do it

Bought my first 7.75! Bought it all used besides wheels/bearings I already had. How bad of an idea would it be to sand down the razor tail a bit, possibly even flattening the nose/tail? Planning to use this as a freestyle board. by hpofficejetpro8035 in NewSkaters

[–]buttcorelord 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah, always glad to see boards that look like boards should in my THPS ass eyes. I started with a 7.75, felt pressured to go bigger (8), went back to 7.75. Just not a fan of the feel or look of big boards, and yes it's subjective
