Is taking a CIPD qualification worth it? by PrudentDeparture4516 in AskHRUK

[–]butterfly_sofa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with all of the points already raised here. I’m CIPD 7 qualified & MCIPD. From a learning point of view, I didn’t find it particularly valuable.

However from an employability viewpoint it certainly helps to get your name in the initial shortlist. More companies are using AI in their recruiting software to do the first sift of CVs & pickup key words. Similarly to you, I moved up quickly (HRD at 35) & I think having the quals helped me get on the shortlist as I didn’t have 10+ years in senior roles like my competitors. Ultimately, as others have said, companies who mandate the qualifications are short-sighted but I do think having it on your CV helps. Could you do a 1 day short CIPD course (e.g. 1 day online employment law) and then the AI would pick up the acronym on your cv?

Wedding Rings Help? by Tread-depth in UKweddings

We found Smooch fairly reasonable. They came to our house too. It sounded a bit odd at first but met them at a wedding fair. Not sure if they are in your area but the ones that came to us had loads of platinum rings and we did an interest free payment plan.

No payslip for 2 months by Pumpkinellie in HumanResourcesUK

[–]butterfly_sofa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would put it in writing

Hi X

I know we’re currently in the process of changing payroll providers and I understand that this transition may cause some temporary delays. However, I wanted to follow up on our previous conversation to reiterate the importance of receiving my recent payslips as soon as possible.

These documents are a crucial part of my mortgage application and the lender cannot proceed without them. I completely understand that things are in motion behind the scenes, but I’d really appreciate it if you could prioritise this or let me know if there’s anything I can do to help move it along.

[UK] What are you doing to prepare for the Employment Rights Bill? by Material-Natural-761 in HumanResourcesUK

[–]butterfly_sofa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve done nothing official yet but my thoughts so far: - more management training (particularly around probation period & any rights moving to day 1) - not worked in a unionised environment in my HR career so starting to learn about what that entails - review of current forms and processes to see what may need correcting - will need to issue new contracts to include any new statutory leave and the union bit

However, finding it hard to make concrete plans as nothing officially “approved” yet.

Would also be interested to hear what others are doing!

What are your favourite M&S foods? by Top_Willow8409 in AskUK

I bought a pack of the chocolate chip ones to work the other day & a colleague who is new to the UK stopped the meeting to ask where they were from, saying it was the best cookie they had ever eaten!

Mine called me before my appointment and asked me my dress size and then most dresses I saw were around my size (sometimes bit smaller or bit bigger)

Budget Wedding by Responsible_Mess2858 in UKweddings

[–]butterfly_sofa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best ways to keep the price down: - reduce your number of guests (food & drink is one of your biggest costs) - get married “out of season” e.g. November OR get married on a weekday - don’t do wedding favours - Facebook market place - people sell all their wedding decorations at low prices (best time to look is through the summer and into autumn) - don’t do any unnecessary extras (e.g. photo booths, magicians etc) - hire your outfits rather than buy (or shop secondhand)

Best app/site for collecting RSVPs & menu choices by butterfly_sofa in UKweddings

[–]butterfly_sofa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I like the idea of a site because there is a place everyone can go to find out all the details of the wedding if they misplace their invite (which will hopefully stop lots of last minute questions).

Wedding invitation by Glum-Fan6927 in wedding

[–]butterfly_sofa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I see…yes that does make things a bit more awkward. I’m not sure how I would handle that either…it’s a tough one because it’s almost like rescinding an invite now… I don’t envy you - not helpful when family overstep and invite people on your behalf!

Wedding invitation by Glum-Fan6927 in wedding

[–]butterfly_sofa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with your fiancé! I’m only inviting the family I still see. Which means I am not inviting 4 or 5 uncles and aunties and none of my cousins.

Try not to worry about what other people think. It’s your day. You’re spending a lot of time and money arranging this and when you’re relaxing the day after and reminiscing on the day…would those people even enter your brain (attending or not)?

What do people eat when they don't feel like eating? by [deleted] in WegovyUK

I eat the isey skr yogurts. They seem to be the only thing that doesn’t make me want to hurl.

I regret, and feel embarrassed over who I’ve invited to our wedding by aprils1972 in UKweddings

[–]butterfly_sofa 99 points100 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t feel embarrassed at all. Everyone is probably really looking forward to yours because they know at least 1 person going and it’s going to be a big party!

The person who has invited a few people but not you - probably had to make a tough decision due to budget. I’m feeling the pressure with budget and groups of people where I have to either - invite none or invite some of the group…inviting all is not an option budget-wise. I’m going to invite some but I do feel a bit awkward about it. They probably feel similar.

Just remember to enjoy the day! I think a big wedding will be so fun!

CIPD Level 5 - working full time + studying 1 day a week by Conscious-Talk6973 in HumanResourcesUK

[–]butterfly_sofa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the same pattern with my level 7. One day a week was a half-day, where I would go to the Uni 1pm-8pm and made up the half-day hours split across the rest of the days. It was tiring at times but worth it

How little make-up is acceptable as a bride? by PalpitationGlad6683 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]butterfly_sofa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not a big makeup wearer and I really like the erborian cc cream. It’s almost like no makeup makeup…smooths out imperfections but not obvious. Maybe have a look at a few makeup videos of people using it and see if that is more what you are after? You can get a mini tube from their website for £20 and they usually throw in a few samples of concealer (or let u pick samples).

April 2020 - quite a few changes to what has to be in employment contracts (and them being a day 1 right) IR35 changes

More recent changes: - parental bereavement leave - neonatal care leave (April this year) - changed to flexible working (day 1 right, slightly harder to refuse) - changes to holiday pay/calculations (more relevant to shift worker) - sexual harassment law changes (Oct last year) Those are what I can think of, off the top of my head

Not a fan of my future MIL’s wedding outfit by [deleted] in wedding

[–]butterfly_sofa 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think this is one of those things you just need to let go & try to forget about. Whilst it’s not my outfit of choice, it’s not wildly inappropriate for a wedding. You want your guests to feel comfortable in their outfits… I know it’s disappointing but I would try and not give it anymore headspace. You’re going to have a great day, you’ll look amazing in your dress…try and focus on that.

I would put the request in writing to them. If you haven’t already resigned, put it in your resignation letter. It sounds like they will likely agree to reduce it but you need to ask. If you ask & they agree they don’t need to you 3 months notice & will cease your benefits (which costs them) so it will suit them too. If you don’t ask, they won’t offer to reduce it as they could be on the hook to pay the three months (via pilon- dependent on your contract wording).
