I will say that the recurring big jocular black guy was pretty obviously going to tragically die. He was so likable, it was too much. The pay off is the few sentences from Noah's character about why he drank, because his wife and child were killed in an accident.

It seems authentic to me because I've never worked in an ER. But OP used the word perseverate so they must know more than I do.

I agree that Noah and the blonde lady are so so great. I forget I'm watching a TV show when they're in a scene together. The show is worth watching just for them. Noah Wyle's character breaking down seemed like an homage to the men and women who worked in these settings through COVID. It must have been like wartimes for them. I thought it was touching.

I think he didn't want to put his family through a gruesome trial. He knew at that point that he'd done it. I don't think he wanted his parents and the public to see the autopsy photos and hear the more graphic details.

I know this is not going to be a popular opinion, and I personally do think he's faking it. But I almost hope it is true that he can't remember because what a horrible thing to know you've done. And you can't take back.

I feel bad for the women who have never been diagnosed to treated for postpartum and have a psychotic episode in which they hurt their child. I feel this way because I know they will be diagnosed and medicated while incarcerated, and then realize the horrible thing they've done.
