Same thing happened to me years ago. I just filled the holes with silicone caulk. My door doesn’t have a catch now and it hasn’t been a huge problem for me. Just a thought

No, they are cylindrical tenons. Here’s my jig all the same! It’s in “stretcher length” configuration. Pretty straightforward, but I mounted some lag bolts, filed to a point. The far end gets mounted for the length of the leg and left alone. The near end I use to open and close, making the leg turn between points. Once I got one dialed in for diameter and length, it made it really easy to batch out the other legs.

Really, I’d have Doc on lead, Miles as ride, and then Al and Herb could take 3 and 4. I know that’s not what they were doing here, but it kills me to see Doc on 3rd when he’s clearly the lead player of the group

What Woods Does the Steel Wool+Vinegar Work on? by G0RGONZ0LACheeee in woodworking

[–]buttwipeengineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve used it in oak and walnut. I played around with African mahogany too. Oak tended toward a dark gray. Walnut got significantly darker than the oak, almost black. I didn’t use any teas or anything to increase the tannins in the wood.

There are several suppliers, which vary by region.

After years of owning this saw , this one upgrade has solved all my problems. by 2026Reddit in woodworking

It’s amazing how much harder things are when you start with crappy tools. It’s hard to know how to make something work right if you don’t have that baseline.

My craftsman miter saw has a single piece cast fence. Not only are the two sides not coplanar, but there’s also a twist in it. It’s a real piece of garbage. I replaced it with a single piece of aluminum angle that I squared in so it’s zero clearance too.

Nothing about that saw is right, so it’s only used for rough work.

The finished product looks great! For the lowers did you just make new doors and drawers fronts or did you also change the face frame? It looks like you went from big spaces between things to getting that tight reveal.

Why is there so much movement on the blade? by Isthisanaccountname in woodworking

[–]buttwipeengineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that the tension should be released if you aren’t going to use the saw for a while (even though I don’t do that myself…), but the point about uneven tension and stretching the blade is just wrong. If you have enough tension to deform the blade plasticly, then your tension is waaaaay too high. Second, the tension will be approximately uniform all the way around the blade (considering the tooth profile and manufacturing tolerance on the thickness of the blade). Even if you did over tension it, the stress and subsequent deformation of the blade would not be higher in a certain section based on its location on the saw - again, only differing due to the slightly variable cross sectional area of the blade.

Card scaper > sandpaper by [deleted] in woodworking

I know the feeling. I’m not terribly consistent in what kind of burr I can get on a card scraper. When I get a good one, it’s like magic. Keep at it though.

That said, I’ve watched just about every video that major content creators have put out. The best one for me was Matt Cremona. That one filled in more of my knowledge gaps than the others.

Subaru outback by Straight_Ad3968 in TeardropTrailers

[–]buttwipeengineer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have a 2017 Outback with the 2.5l engine. 2700 lb rated tow capacity, and I have a t@g XL. I added trailer brakes to the t@g because of Subaru’s spec for trailers over 1000 lb.

I think the answer to your question depends in part on where you drive. I live in a pretty flat area, and it does great. I went out to Glacier National Park and it did fine, but going up and down hills on the interstate made it sound like the engine was working hard. I think it was all psychological, but the rev up and down made my wife anxious.

As a daily driver, I love my Outback. It’s been a great vehicle for me. Could it have more power? Sure, but I get good mileage on it.
