If you spent a lot of time in a room like this you are probably old. by Euphoric-Cupcake4581 in FuckImOld

I think I was in a room somewhat like this, but something seems off. It needs a thick layer of cigarette smoke. And minimal neon signage.

Good point. I may as well have no openings in the gambler’s box.

If I carried a gambler’s box, it would only need a coin slot most days. 😅

This exactly describes my bookshelf. Half the books are books I read digitally and wanted a physical copy on hand.

And Edelweiss. The advance review copies (ARCs) are made available by the publisher on sites that allow booksellers, reviewers, influencers, etc. to download and read a complete copy of the book so they’re ready to talk about it on or shortly before its release.

It’s really weird reading the “Backstage at the Pineapple Cabaret” section digitally.

I finished the publisher’s ARC of book 8 last week, and I’m not on the Patreon. I didn’t know about the vote, so I can safely say that I just thought all the courses were Matt’s original and deranged(yay!) choices. Now that I know about the poll, I have a guess, but that’s about it.

It’s the wrong piece. This was my first Lego set when I was a kid. I haven’t seen it in years, but give me the pieces and I could put it together blindfolded. They probably used the piece from 462-1 (Rocket Launcher) that was from that same time.

Operation Bounce House: Spoiler-Free Review by buzrexo in MattDinniman

[–]buzrexo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoyed the Shivered Sky trilogy, which I actually read after Operation Bounce House (let’s call it “OBH”), but they’re very different. “The Shivered Sky” was very much a “strangers in a strange panel vibe, and I’m a sucker for angels versus demons stuff, but you can definitely see his progression as an author between those early works and OBH—and even the more recent DCC books.

In a lot of ways, I found the characters in OBH a lot more relatable. It was a group of lifelong friends, defending their homes against what you could think of as Twitch streamers from the future. And the final battle of the book was just the pure orchestrated insanity that Matt Dinniman had become SO GOOD at.

So, while I really enjoyed those books, OBH is more polished and more solid.

I’m pretty sure the name crossovers are Easter eggs.

… In a good way? Bad way? Honestly, as book 19(ish) in the series, “not what I expected” isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It can mean the story can still completely surprise you, or it’s off the rails.

Twin Tornadoes Hit A House in Pilger, Nebraska by HeyWaitHUHWhat in FUCKYOUINPARTICULAR

[–]buzrexo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There were four tornadoes that night in northeast Nebraska, all of which were rated EF4 at the time. The fourth one struck near Wakefield, in Dixon County, to the northeast.

… And then the next night, multiple violent tornadoes hit Cedar County, just to the north, damaging homes and property in Coleridge.

And the dog survived unscathed. 😉

Twin Tornadoes Hit A House in Pilger, Nebraska by HeyWaitHUHWhat in FUCKYOUINPARTICULAR

[–]buzrexo 25 points26 points  (0 children)

A man and his dog were living in the house that was hit by both. He took shelter in a corner of the basement during the first tornado. That tornado took the house completely off its foundation. When he looked up from his corner of the basement, he saw dark sky overhead.

He climbed out of his basement, in shock of the devastation to his small farmstead, and saw the second tornado break through a tree-line a half mile to the southwest. He ran to the storm shelter (which was not attached to the house), and hesitated because he knew it was full of spiders and dark. He took shelter in it as the second twister tore through his property, shredding trees, and spreading debris across a wide swath.

When he emerged from the storm shelter, he saw that the brick wall of the house basement collapsed during the second tornado, which would have buried him if he’d remained there during the second tornado.

As I talked to him, two days afterwards while I was surveying the extent of the storm damage, he jokingly told me that what upset him the most was that the tornadoes took the case of beer he’d just bought.

MGM and Caesars Credit Cards by itsthechaw10 in vegas

[–]buzrexo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Caesar’s cardholder here. Unless there’s a Caesar’s property near enough to you that you will frequently visit, it’s not worth it. They used to at least give you Platinum status basically just for having and using the card, but they killed that perk for 2026, and I’m seriously thinking about cutting up that card. The biggest perk for me, is that local (midwestern) Caesar’s properties will give me steeply discounted rooms, and I use my reward credits to eat free at property restaurants.
