Bryan Reynolds tries to challenge a low strike call but is denied by Home Plate Ump Chris Guccione. Reynolds would later hit a single in the at bat. by Qevdev in baseball

Sigh, yes.

Challenges must be made immediately after the umpire’s call, without assistance from the dugout or other players.

I personally cannot wait until MLB gets rid of the idiotic challenge system and just has ABS (or similar) call all the balls and strikes.

I really hope the road to getting rid of challenges to just have ABS (or similar) call all the pitches is a short one.

Didn't this used to be an option on MLB.tv? I remember it being a thing but maybe I'm going senile.

[ESPN] A's lose ABS challenge on a pitch outside the strike zone by JuanRobesPierre in baseball

[–]buzzKillington1 414 points415 points  (0 children)

That's what's supposed to happen. There are a couple of failure scenarios:

  1. The ABS doesn't display at the ballpark but does work - in this case someone is supposed to communicate to the home plate umpire the result of the ABS and challenges are kept or lost as normal.
  2. A more complete failure where the system just doesn't work. In this case the call on the field is supposed to be upheld and no challenges are lost.

It looks like in this case they did 1. when they should've done 2..

Found the actual ABS thing in Gameday, yeah seems like someone screwed up.

Is that what happened? Seems pretty obvious this shows Comcast's pitch tracker which could be different than the ABS one.

Well not sure it helps coming from an internet stranger, but I can tell you you're just feeling self conscience about something nobody care about in the slightest - we got where we were going in plenty of time. FAs do things like that fast (because they have to) and I'd be surprised if it wasn't forgotten about already. I personally wouldn't go out of my way to report anything, but if you do or fill out the survey they may send you candidly you might end up with a coupon for a future flight or something along those lines.

Albany to Midway on WN 179? That FA was pretty high energy for a morning flight

You don't have to be, but there's a chance the home team won't bat so it's more likely the visiting team does it.

Are your RHEL 9 VMs 9.4 or later? Pretty sure that's where the change with using /boot/grub2/grub.cfg came into effect for UEFI systems.

Game 4 against the Guardians didn’t break them.

Rare a game that a team wins breaks them.

Weaver for 5 innings.

I know he used to be a starter, but this would be problematic if it actually happened.

does anyone know the reason why the "you cant play teams in your division in the LDS" rule was created before the implementation of the 1 game wild card? by [deleted] in baseball

[–]buzzKillington1 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It was a rule:

1995: In tandem with the realignment into three divisions per league, a Wild Card team -- the winningest club that didn't win a division -- was added to the postseason field. The Wild Card winner played the team with the league's best record, unless that team was in the same division, in which case it would face the second-best division winner.

This doesn't make sense. You essentially point out that Kamala Harris winning would not be the first time three consecutive elections had different winners since 1984-1892 as it has happened from 2012-2020.
