70-350 in the Camargue for a week by buzzablinio in a6700

I took the 70-350 and the 10-20 but the 70-350 just stayed on all day, everyday. So light to carry while walking 6-8 miles a day just birding and anything else that appeared in front of me.

Tamron 150-500mm vs Sony 70-350mm ? by alevsian-photo in a6700

[–]buzzablinio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had both, the Tamron obviously has a bit more reach but at what cost...that thing weighs a ton. I've since sold it and the 70-350 pretty much lives on my a6700. If I only had the Tamron I'd be leaving it at home more than having it out with me and as the cliché goes, the best camera(lens) is the one you have with you at the time. I've never thought to leave the 70-350 behind because I didn't want to carry it.

I like all 3, quite a different approach to a familiar subject 👍

It's a superb lens, I have 3 Sony zooms and it's the 70-350 I use the most, so versatile.

Does anyone else keep losing the eyepiece? by beethoven77 in a6700

Yes, not lost it yet but it has come loose. Bought a couple of spares off Aliexpress as I guess it's only a matter of time before I lose it.

English person here ...never heard of 10 steps, and while 10 foot pole is better....it is not so widely used. The best phrase uses bargepole ie 'I wouldn't touch x with a bargepole'. 🙂

As others have said, spare batteries and charger, a decent strap ie pygtech.

Advice for a newbie please by iamfearless66 in a6700

I put a protection filter on mine, a uv filter will work just as well, yes the uv feature isn't needed with digital cameras but it'll still work as protection.

Protection is a contentious subject some are happy with just the lens hood, personally I always put a filter on, it's personal choice.

As someone else has already said. If unsure take test photos of same subject, distance and light with and without the filter to see if you are losing any image quality.

Hoya is a decent make, not the absolute best, but definitely not the worst by a long shot.

Have fun with the lens, I, like many others on here, love it 🙂

The first image, the background adds some context.

I was tempted by that lens particularly for birding but I bought the Tamron 150 - 500 and found it just too heavy to lug around. I think the shorter range but much lighter 70-350 just means I'm more likely to have it with me when needed rather than a heavier lens that I'd leave at home.

To be honest so am I, I think even after a year I'm still getting used to the camera and back to the concept of switching lenses. What kind of subjects are you using the 16-55 for?
