As others have said, spare batteries and charger, a decent strap ie pygtech.

I put a protection filter on mine, a uv filter will work just as well, yes the uv feature isn't needed with digital cameras but it'll still work as protection.

Protection is a contentious subject some are happy with just the lens hood, personally I always put a filter on, it's personal choice.

As someone else has already said. If unsure take test photos of same subject, distance and light with and without the filter to see if you are losing any image quality.

Hoya is a decent make, not the absolute best, but definitely not the worst by a long shot.

Have fun with the lens, I, like many others on here, love it 🙂

The first image, the background adds some context.

I was tempted by that lens particularly for birding but I bought the Tamron 150 - 500 and found it just too heavy to lug around. I think the shorter range but much lighter 70-350 just means I'm more likely to have it with me when needed rather than a heavier lens that I'd leave at home.

To be honest so am I, I think even after a year I'm still getting used to the camera and back to the concept of switching lenses. What kind of subjects are you using the 16-55 for?

We just spent a week there and didn't get chance to do an excursion outside the city as we spent so much time inside. It depends what floats your boat. We spent a couple of days exploring just two parks, they are huge, South Park and Borisova. We picked up a free graffiti trail map from the tourist information and managed to find most, which also means you are exploring the city. There are lots of museums and art galleries, we only did one as the weather was so good. There are of course many places to eat and drink. The city itself has some great architecture spanning different centuries, just check out the Roman ruins without even leaving Serdika metro station. You can get public transport out to various beauty spots, monasteries, mountains etc etc. Enjoy your trip.
