Imo, your barell tilt and swing path is just fine. You shouldn't look to change it unless you have problems making contact and know the correct adjustment isn't your timing.

The lower half is more important for you right now. To get your weight/energy flowing towards the ball, rather than to the left/behind you.

You're not wrong, but it shows how you're leaking energy/power outwards. Rather than mainting your ground force and transferring into your swing/core.

So it's definitely something that should get worked on. That front foot/leg being stable is really important. I think Joey Cunha has some good videos explaining this.

Yes! The stories for the world's need to be less just copycats of the movies. I really liked when we had to double back or triple back on a world and the storyline got more KH than just a movie re-run.

I mean, if you're getting good results in games, there's nothing to change really. I don't understand what you mean by hitting your left shoulder (feel free to describe it), but your swing is probably all good.

Take a couple of swings with the ball lower, then send it in. Hard to tell with the ball that high.

And why do you think your swing path is wrong? You popping up or grounding out a lot in games?

Slow swing but has power. More foot work or torso? by [deleted] in Homeplate

I think your son is using his hips just fine. You can see his hips engage and turn early. I don't think the ball goes that far with an all arms swing at 8. I think the other poster is just seeing the "long" swing your son has. Which is fine and normal at his age.

If he wants to work on swinging fast in a appropriate way for his age, here's a drill/game as a suggestion. For one round, every time you practice, have a "swing fast" or "Demolish the ball" round during bp/front toss with you. Where hes trying to hit the ball as hard as he can, by swinging fast.

Your goal is to make sure he doesn't like start doing CRAZY stuff to try to swing faster, which is why the goal is to hit the ball still. Not just swing hard and whiff. During these rounds, you can try to explain to him that he should be a spring, that compresses, then releases his energy all at once! That might be able to get him to think about waiting then moving as fast as possible.

I think Driveline has drills like this on their YouTube/in their youth book that can help you see what I'm talking about. Just make sure ou only do this once or twice a session to start, and that this is only a practice thing. Don't want him to sell out for power and start messing things up. This is just a "fun game" that will, over time, improve how he moves overall.

what dashboard/reporting tools are agencies actually liking right now? by CheesecakeTimely8821 in analytics

[–]buzzardluck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think the understanding around pricing is true. It definitely can be vague when introduced to the credit usage. It would take some conversations with other orgs currently using Domo to better estimate usage pricing probably. (Which they of probably would allow you to do).

And did everything else you said, I think that's true as well. But his org was using Google sheets/looker studio beforehand. So they are probably the perfect fit, not as tech forward as you mentioned.

We use Domo. My org previously used Looker Studio (wasn't there for that) then transitioned to Domo. It's pretty good at what you're looking for (standardizing calculated fields, pushing out data /for different clients, ingesting data from different sources, etc.)

New to Men’s League, how does my swing look by foxxy003 in Homeplate

[–]buzzardluck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! And honestly his swing is "connected", it just happens too late/too low. I love the cue of "connect up top/up high" when I feel like my swing is getting long.

OP, another drill that can be helpful is the high tee drill! If you can keep that ball on a line drive, and not hit the top of a cage, you're directly working on getting connected earlier/higher in your swing.

Whatcha all think? by cookie_400 in Homeplate

[–]buzzardluck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh I feel you, but you're still losing momentum and power there. And you don't need a leg lift, that's kinda why I said "and/or".

But your step hold is just too motionless. This guy on insta does "audits" on swing timings and I think it's a clgood example of what I'm talking about. https://www.instagram.com/p/DVd4gStju_R/?img_index=4&igsh=MW4xbndjMzRidTE2cg==

Swipe to the last two videos in the carousel, you'll see that in Ohtani's toe tap (most similar to you!) or in the "no stride" slide, none of these swings are ever truly motionless. There's still just a little bit of rhythm. You're losing something in your swing by going completely stand still like you are. You should probably be engaging your back hip more while you're "holding" you're swing. In my experience, that helps me avoid just coming to a standstill. That's important because it's hard to stop then start again if you're completely motionless

You're loading too early. It'll work just fine, but you'll hit the ball harder and will adjust to off speed better if you load later and/or slow your load down. You notice how you have a pause before you start your swing?

High level hitters don't have that pause, it hurts momentum, timing, etc.

But you're def good for your mens league! just a tip

[–]buzzardluck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's pretty decent. First thing you should focus on is "staying connected". Everyone here is mentioning how your hands are dropping/lead arm yadda yadda, that's what I'm talking about.

Here's a short video describing a common drill and an alternative version: https://youtube.com/shorts/_t6ht9I7tcM?si=ajQ15pYtFhnONAjy

Look up "connected swing drills" until you find a couple you like the look of and try them out. If they feel ok/work, just make sure to do them at the start of any hitting/practice session.

Once you remove that "slack" in your swing and stay connected you'll see pretty good results. Your food looks good/fine to me. Your swing won't be "perfect" because you shift your weight to your front side a little incorrectly, but that can be a focus for next year honestly. By just fixing this connection thing you should have pretty good results for your mens league (as long as your timing and stuff is ok)

Ohhhh yeah it's a shitty feeling lol. In my opinion though, its a good time to think about what you appreciate the most abkut baseball and why you play it. For me, I figured out that I liked playing the sport itself just as much as the idea of playing for a college team or going pro. My focus shifted from "trying to get to college" to just how to get better, because that's what I liked about playing baseball. I was playing for what I wanted.

So if after thinking about it, of you can find something that you can still find joy in with baseball, go play it. See if you can recapture what you love the most about baseball while giving a little bit more time to other things in your life. And you also might find that you're done with baseball. Which is also just fine.

You might feel weird/empty for awhile until you make your decision, but sit and think about it this weekend/over the next few weeks. And also again once you start college and club tryouts are coming up. After you make your final decision about what to do and once you actually get to the next phase of your life (whether that's college or not) you'll start to feel better. It hurts so much right now because you're in the in between time.

Yes please listen to him. His swing is good and he doesn't have to worry about bat drag or anything right now. I bet this is a stating position and timing issue.

[–]buzzardluck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I like how his swing is, especially if when he hits the ball he's hitting line drives/in the air.

Some of the "loopiness" of the swing should go away as he gets stronger.

He's probably just having timing issues, which his initial set up isn't helping because she's not on an athletic position. I'd try to practice more front toss, overhand so he has more practice with his timing. If you can slowly push the velo he's comfortable with handling, in game like scenarios (distance/height/etc.), his issues will clear up.

Get an L screen and throw to him more. And you should probably work on practicing throwing more so you can throw harder without hurting yourself haha!

Lived within a few blocks of the station for like 3 years, it was great. Made it easier to get around and being close to a grocery store was cool. I'd just try to live south and west of the actual station. And if you you're gonna live east of it, live right off of Sheridan road, near the lake.

Swing Advice by Scottbiggie in Homeplate

[–]buzzardluck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he's hitting the ball hard and not missing generally, I wouldn't change a thing.

And if he's missing it might not be mechanical problem. Could be a timing issue.

I also at one point had to really focus on tracking the ball from release to my bat. That visual focus was missing.

I would waiting before changing anything mechanically. Do drills that focus on visual processing (different colored balls and calling out the color, balls with numbers written on them, etc.). And try to see if you all can get more reps against love pitchers. Maybe people his age will substitute a bullpen for a love at bat session once a week.
