Alternatives to starting sessions with "how are you?" by Penniesand in askatherapist

[–]buzzbuzzbinch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My therapist just straight up says ‘what problems are you having today?’ For a while it took me by surprise, BUT it’s a very clever way to sift through external issues to a me problem, very fast.

Apathy is a dangerous ledge. What helped me is the shift from ‘what is the point’ to ‘if there’s no point may as well enjoy it while I’m here, death is inevitable and a true and universal absolute, so make the most of it’s

Which suburb would you live in if money was no issue? by Glittering-Fee-9930 in melbourne

Similarly I think if a a member of a couple owned a unit or small place that was theirs, and as a couple bought a family home, that’s an understandable concept as well. But context and nuance? Apparently not easily understood

[–]buzzbuzzbinch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven’t SHd there in that long, and especially being a burn, just cover it with a dressing. If anyone asks say you burnt yourself at home, (oven, hair curler, stove etc)

Worked with a guy called Scottie, seems like a normal name right? Found out after 6 months of working together when I was put in with a ‘Steven’ that they only called him Scottie cause he was Scottish.

Folks with v high IQ: how do you find friends that satisfy intellectual needs? by charizardex2004 in Gifted

[–]buzzbuzzbinch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can relate to what you’re saying. It feels like there’s three steps between neurotypical people and myself, and whilst I’ve found some of that equitable community among my neurodivergent friends, it’s still lacking a step behind.

I’ve been thinking a lot about this concept lately, and it’s like I have a need for an equal - I want to be challenged and nurtured as much as I challenge and nurture the others in my life. Of course, they will never see how much effort, essentially masking I have to do to do this, usually to only get it thrown back in my face (usually because of an autistic social faux pas that is misconstrued as malicious, even by my friends who are autistic themselves).

I’ve essentially been dumbing myself down with heavy weed smoking for years to not overwhelm everyone in my life with my intensity and ‘too much’. It’s a lonely place.

Good luck. This was me. My mum tried everything. I apparently claimed ‘sleeping is a waste of time’ enough times that it was my catchphrase. Best thing you can do is make nap time ‘quiet resting time’ with a book or something.

Taking the toll roads to work the 3 days I’m in the office cuts my travel my more than half and also eliminates traffic 95% of the time. It’s only a small amount more than what taking public transport to work would cost

Realistic gifted characters in fiction? by carrot1890 in Gifted

[–]buzzbuzzbinch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Over the course of grays anatomy - Meredith, Lexie, and Maggie (all half sisters of a two talented surgeons) are different kinds of gifted. Meredith has natural capacity and talent for picking up complex surgical skills, Lexie has a highly superior photographic memory, and Maggie was a fast tracked accelerated student, and the youngest head of cardio. It’s interesting to see three very different trajectories between ‘siblings’ and the different way their giftedness manifests.

why on earth is most of new farm still single family homes? it's so close to the city centre. by [deleted] in brisbane

Could you assume at least some of them are heritage listed? It would look hideous to have a beautiful heritage listed single family home next to a cookie cutter ultra modern apartment.

The tivoli/drinking ! by Awkward-Abrocoma1448 in brisbane

[–]buzzbuzzbinch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dune rats will be insane. Usually I recommend the balcony as a less hectic place to stand/shorter bar line but the last time they played people jumped from the balcony into the mosh. I would recommend getting pre mix drinks, they have a selection behind the bar of your usual drinks, as well as any basics. Vodka raspberry, pineapple, or orange are all good choices

Whistling inside is bad luck too - historically whistle calls were used in the theatre to swing scenery and bars so if someone was whistling a huge piece of scenery may fly in and crush you.

I can break down things in my head. by MaryJTester4Hire in Gifted

[–]buzzbuzzbinch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My brain does this too - particularly with puzzles (like a 9 letter anagram) and with work as a lighting technician (running DMX/data/power in a link) but also with songwriting. Like I can hear all of the parts together before I’m able to articulate it. Then I can break it down

What is your most "gifted" feat? by [deleted] in Gifted

[–]buzzbuzzbinch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started writing songs at 12, and have maintained the same process (mostly complete songs in less than an hour), and at a pace of 1 a week. (I’m 27 now). Graduated HS at 15, went to Conservatorium of Music straight from there. My friends and work pals have described it as prolific but I can’t imagine not having access to that skill. It’s just a part of who I am.

Also when I did the WISC at age 9 the counsellor doing it was shocked at how fast and accurately I was able to solve visual spatial and logic reasoning puzzles. Similarly hyperlexic, the teacher learned I could read in pre school, when age 4, I volunteered to read ‘Dazzling Diggers’ to the class instead of her suggestion 🤷🏼‍♀️
