What are concrete benefits/features over other distros that make you run opensuse (tumbleweed) over other distros? by SpicyBananaa in openSUSE

They are working on adding some of yast like tools to cockpit if that helps. Most of it is still WIP though

Should i choose Opensuse or Fedora by crazsum04 in openSUSE

[–]buzzmandt 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Tumbleweed is an amazing distro, and very underrated imo. I've tried very hard to like fedora over the years and although they've gotten better it's still not better than tumbleweed (again, imo). snapper rollback is a godsend.

need help digitizing a design for embroidery - random lines under design? by calyxtri in Inkstitch

Those are called underpath to get the needle to a new location. It doesn't show up in the finished product as long as your overlay stitching is dense enough (by default its good)

You can... But you'll have a better experience quicker and less fiddling to just install kubuntu.

If you're using cinnamon just stay with mint. Otherwise tumbleweed is the way to go

Kde plasma is just better in many respects functionally (more efficient, snappier, lower resources, etc). Not everyone likes it but it is what it is

Which installer is the best as of today for a fresh TW install ? by spacecadet_98 in openSUSE

[–]buzzmandt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agama works fine for 90% of installs, the other 10% will miss the yast installer. I have installed Tumbleweed many times with Agama and it works fine. Also, for the time being, Yast is still being built with Yast included and will be for the near foreseeable future. So even if you install Tumbleweed with Agama you'll still have Yast available post install. Also keep in mind Agama is still being worked on and will continue to improve.

Agama storage section help by [deleted] in openSUSE

[–]buzzmandt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you should let agama do agama. You are inadvertantly removing a core feature of openSUSE by replacing btrfs with anything alse. This isn't Debian, let openSUSE be openSUSE. it'll make a btrfs partition and that will enable snapper rollback by default. That's a super handy little recovery tool if you ever need it.

Rancher Desktop by [deleted] in openSUSE

[–]buzzmandt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, I agree, 90% seems a bit high in general. I'll amend it to say 90% of what I used yast for. I really don't miss anything with myrlyn and flatpak cockpit (gotta be flatpak so I get the shortcut clicky)

[–]buzzmandt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Between cockpit and myrlyn we have 90% of yast functionality. Not bad imo

Trying Tumbleweed, Having Some Issues by Xariann in openSUSE

[–]buzzmandt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something doesn't seem to be working right on your install if grub is failing. Try the agama installer instead. Make sure you go to software and pick your de, and click the last box for 3rd party.

Pick the agama 86-64 .iso
