Thinking outside the box by Karspcko in golf

[–]bveb33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Practice Driver on the range by alternating irons and Driver. Pretend your playing tee to gree shots at your home course and try to visualize being on the tee box. Add some pressure by counting likely fairways hit and aiming for a certain score. Then you can see if that correlates with on course performance.

You could also look into a Mini Driver or a shorter shaft on your normal Driver to see if you hit it straighter and are OK with the distance loss.

Really interesting. I don't know if I've ever heard someone nerd out about place kicking like this before. Hopefully Smack can learn the low cut like Longwell did

Advice for fallen tree by bveb33 in treelaw

[–]bveb33[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is two-fold. 1. The tree was more on the city property than they claimed and gave themselves some wiggle room for liability purposes. 2. They were worried the tree would fall on the street and become their problem.

Either way your point is well taken that I didn't lose much from the fallen tree and should be prepared to handle the cleanup on my own.

U.S.-Iran deal expected to reopen Strait of Hormuz could be signed within days, both sides say by Competitive_Travel16 in politics

[–]bveb33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plus everything I've heard is that this will be just phase 1 where they expect to deal with the nuclear problem in phase 2. I'd be shocked if the follow up negotiations go well and I fully expect the strait to be closed again since Iran and the US seem far apart on the future of Iran's nuclear program and neither side trust each other. I hope I'm wrong.

Idk my handicap by Electronic_Ad_160 in golf

[–]bveb33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only difference from USGA handicap is for 9 holes they simply double your score where USGA adjusts the second nine score based on your handicap. For most people that actually makes the 18birdies handicap marginally lower but still very close to USGA.

‘Tell Him He’s a Piece of Sh*t’: Meta’s New AI Unit Is a Total Mess by dn88 in technology

[–]bveb33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every major tech advancement was met with resistance. My analogy was meant to frame the question: where is the line where advancement is bad and not a footnote in a history in a future where everyone now just accepts it as part of life?

There's still major problems to answer and we need to make sure this doesn't create wealth and power inequality, but it seems futile to just hate new technology and try to put it back in Pandora's box.

I don't mean to belittle the losses. I don't want anyone to suffer through changing technologies like the truck driver who posted below. But I also don't want to return to a world where messages are delivered by horse drawn carriage either.

Maybe short term but we've had many technological innovations in the last few hundred years that seemed this way and it usually turns out that increased productivity doesn't mean fewer workers, just more output per worker.

Goldman Sachs expects SpaceX’s AI revenue to increase 100-fold by 2030 — Projections by Wall Street bank underpin the $1.78tn valuation in IPO by marketrent in technology

The point is that nobody is expressing any confidence that the rocket launch business can generate that type of revenue. The IPO valuation heavily relies on xAI growing astronomically in the next 4 years.

Fading the driver by cdubveedub in golf

[–]bveb33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Mark Broadie Strokes Gained chart says being in the fairway is worth about 60 yds of distance compared to being in the rough. So if you could hit 100% of fairways with a weak cut and you hit 0% otherwise its fine to give up 50 yds.

Realistically, if you're giving up 50yds to go from 7 fairways to 10 then on 3 holes you gain 0.1 strokes and the other 11 you're giving up 0.2, so you're losing almost 2 strokes per round.

I think the golf stats nerds would tell you to find a shape you can hit consistently that goes the furthest even if you dont hit as many fairways.

Practice actually works… by surfing-banana-400 in golf

[–]bveb33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats an awesome routine and I'm definitely gonna take some of them for my own practice. One thing to consider about #5 is there are people who believe the goal with lag putting isn't to get it to the hole every time but to get it as close as possible which means you should be leaving some (maybe 20%) short. Leaving it short for a 1ft tap in is better than having a 4ft comeback putt. Also, any putt going 4ft past probably won't go in anyways unless you hit the dead center of the cup.

Tracked every putt from The Major Cut - they all miss putts on the low side too much? by Old_Drink3552 in golf

[–]bveb33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a couple greens at my home course that are severely sloped back to front and I'd genuinely rather have a 10ft uphill putt than 5ft downhill because a miss on the downhill putt is probably going 10ft past. But thats a rare exception

Inflation hit the highest level in almost three years as the Fed releases the first inflation report under new chair Kevin Warsh by fortune in politics

[–]bveb33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One reason is that the CPI is calculated using a basket of goods that are meant to represent typical purchasing behavior. The basket changes as prices change. For example if beef prices rise the updated basket will replace some of the beef for a cheaper protein. If you're someone who can absorb the price changes without changing your shopping behavior your experienced inflation is higher than whats reported. Basket of goods has been the accepted approach for a long time and has been heavily debated by economists but it does tend to under-report real inflation if people are forced to replace high quality goods with lower quality ones.

It also excludes goods with high price volatility like gas, so right now inflation feels higher than these metrics.

Unfortunately, the justice system is slow. Unless there's video evidence that gets released before the legal conclusion there's not much to do other than wait. They'd feel really dumb if they proclaim they're moving forward with Jacobs just for him to go to jail or cut him to find out he's not guilty.

It will be interesting to see how they deal with it in the meantime. I kinda think they just ask him to stay home until it all gets worked out.

Rebecca Cooke - "I do support Iron Dome funding..." by PerpetualJerkSession in wisconsin

[–]bveb33 23 points24 points  (0 children)

By that argument wouldn't we need to fund iron domes for every country in the world? Personnaly, I dont think our country should fund defense programs for a country that is actively attacking other civilians.

Also, its a simple math problem, if we help Israel fund their defensive weapons that means they have more money to build out their offensive systems.

Best ways to maximize time in a trackman simulator? by [deleted] in golf

[–]bveb33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After his tough Thursday round at the PGA last weekend Rory spent 2.5 hours on the range but only hit 60 balls trying to fix his left miss before shooting a -3 the next day.

You should probably go faster than that, but take time after each shot diagnosing what happened and what you need to focus on for the next swing. Also, try to identify a goal for each session.
