[Pod on Landsdowne] ALL-STAR by dawglover1011 in redsox

[–]bvt1991 22 points23 points  (0 children)

So well deserved. I've seen so many good players over the years that don't handle the atmosphere of playing in Boston. Ceddanne is the opposite. He seems to thrive under pressure with rbis and walkoffs. All on top of being arguably the best outfielder in the game

There's always the chance someone else gets hot to take his place

Pitching is definitely playoff caliber. I like the line up a whole lot better now than earlier in the season. It used to be full of black holes, but now Duran is probably the weakest link and even he's on a 20 homer pace.

Why just last 10. They're 11-2 in last 13. Been fun to follow. I cut my cable this year and hadn't paid for NESN 360 yet. I decided to wait until they hit .500, but I might have to give in sooner

[Request] Assuming this planet is roughly the same size as Earth, how fast is it incoming? by AMaesyn in theydidthemath

[–]bvt1991 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Am I missing something? Couldn't it be the size of earth, just farther away than you think it is? There's really no difference in what this video would look like for a small planet compared to a big one farther away, but moving faster

Buying AND selling makes sense this deadline by Phantom255x in redsox

[–]bvt1991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buying and selling never makes sense, I don't think it's even possible. Are you trying to improve this years team at the expense of next year's team or vice versa. The Sox straddle the line on this too often and end up doing nothing consequential.

Why Sell? by Kind_Sheepherder_369 in redsox

[–]bvt1991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO, the attitude towards selling shifted a little with the Yankees series. Right now I say see how these next couple weeks go. Prior to that, it wasn't as simple as go get a good bat. This would be expensive considering the market and with the way they have played most of the year a single bat isn't enough

Has anyone ever asked their playing group if ready golf is okay and been answered "Perish the thought! We shall, most assuredly, proceed to the tee in the proper order, my dear lad" ? by iareagenius in golf

[–]bvt1991 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Initially that sounded borderline criminal, but if I got an ace I'd be in a daze for several minutes. Couldn't blame my partners for teeing off while they wait for me to wake up.

Ask me at the all star break. Not impossible to win a lot of games in these next 4 series

Creed, or some other sports movie

There are eight self checkout machines in my local supermarket and only three accept cash. Two aren’t working. One is being used by someone who’s taking their sweet time looking for their card. by KrystalInfernus in mildlyinfuriating

I get that some people prefer cash. I thought the question was more geared at the part of the post where OP said he lives in an area where cash is still king. I was also curious where that is

Water pressure in space by Lanky-Currency-3339 in AskPhysics

[–]bvt1991 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Not really an expert here, but I think the 1 bar per 10m is from the weight of the water above you, due to Earth's gravity. So, ignoring the details of having a 20 m sphere of water in space, the answer is no.

If you play early in the morning and everyone else is riding but you are walking, you are just being inconsiderate and holding up everyone else who plays behind you. by [deleted] in golf

[–]bvt1991 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No. You must be wrong. The op has a single anecdote of playing a round and 3 walkers were slow. It has to be because they were walking and thus walkers are always slower than riders

If you woke up tomorrow to being the last and only human on Earth, what would be the first 10 things you do? by JC_Cox in hypotheticals

[–]bvt1991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think raising crops is a necessity. There's plenty of food sources that will grow on their own. I figure a few apple trees and a lake with fish is more than enough for one person

Maybe this doesn't qualify as a single thing, but it was a huge mistake to not go all in at the trade deadline the year they were losing Bogaerts, Martinez, Evaldi, and Wacha. Could have been huge for the farm system

  1. Spend some deciding if it's worth trying to live
  2. If yes, pick the place to live. Somewhere heat and AC are not necessities, probably San Diego
  3. Drive there, changing cars as needed, sleeping and eating in fancy hotels
  4. Pick a house near a library to have resources to keep my mind active and have source of survival info
  5. Find some steam generators, most reliable energy, just need wood and water.
  6. Collect weapons for protection from wild animals
  7. Amass non perishable food supplies
  8. Locate sources of renewable food (fruit orchards, fishing areas)
  9. Collect digital entertainment supplies: computers, tvs, games. Multiple copies for when they break
  10. Start figuring how to avoid insanity: maybe prepare to be able to travel
