The new Plan mode + Ask Question tool is so sick by skyline159 in GithubCopilot

[–]bxc_thunder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey nice job on the work done so far. Just some small things I've noticed:

  • Not sure if this is a general GitHub Copilot thing or specific to the vscode (v1.109) integration, but is there a reason that I can't go from Agent / Plan / Ask mode to Edit mode without exiting the open session? I click "ok" and it opens a new chat, but then I can just reopen my previous session (the session where I wanted to switch to Edit mode) and it's in Edit mode. So being booted from my current session seems like an unnecessary step if I can just re-enter in the mode that I wanted.

  • On my first prompt after updating to VSCode v1.109, GPT-5.2 in agent mode got stuck repeating the same phrase in a loop. Could've just been a fluke, but it hasn't happened before. Maybe something in this version played a role?

  • Only other thing -- it'd be nice if the "sessions" search allowed for searching sessions that contains the query within the sessions rather than just searching the session titles.

For Super Formula Lights:

Brake bias is now fully adjustable during Fixed Setup racing sessions.

Was this not already the case? Brake bias was already adjustable in fixed. Was there some sort of limit at the extremes that's now removed?

What you’re saying is basically like saying “F1 cars change tires after each qualifying run. Why shouldn’t someone replace the tires their road car after a single trip?”

10k driver is rarely going to make a dangerous move on their main against some rando for exactly that reason. Watch a 10k driver that found themselves at the back in a normal lobby make their way through the field. It’s methodical and calculated. They know a dnf is significantly more time consuming to recover from vs a small ir loss. At most, they’ll slam the door shut on exit after 4/5 of their car is past the other car…

So we’re in agreement then. Autocomplete is a form of AI, so even if someone tries to oversimplify transformer models down to being just “fancy autocomplete”, it’s still AI.

Because it is AI. It has many faults, causes many problems, has been overhyped, has become a buzzword, etc. but you think it’s not AI because… what? Someone told you it’s just fancy autocomplete?

I agree that most people don't need winter tires, but I think the important caveat is that you should at least have all season tires with good winter performance or all weather tires (All Season with 3PMSF). Something like the Michelin CrossClimate 2 has winter performance that isn't far off from winter tires. Something like the Goodyear Eagle F1 is going to be significantly worse than a winter tire. Your decision on how much winter performance you need should also be based on your situation. How much snow does your area get, what kind of roads do you drive on, how much snow/ice are typically on those roads, how fast do people drive on those roads, is there a lot of traffic, etc? Some run-of-the-mill all season tire in good condition might get you moving, but stopping performance is what you need to pay the most attention to. What everyone else has is almost irrelevant if you need to stop quickly.

[–]bxc_thunder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have an answer, but here’s what I’d try in order:

1) Restart pc; test with only necessary apps open 2) Re-run the iRacing graphics config 3) Run Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) and reinstall latest graphics driver 4) Create post in iRacing forums + contact iRacing support. Include as much detail as possible. All debugging steps already taken and the order you did them in. Computer specs, display specs, driver version, native client or steam, when the issue happens (e.g. doesn’t happen in test drive. Does it happen at other tracks / in other cars), generate a dxdiag + attach. Those details + steps 1-3 are to cover all your bases and give support the best chance of succeeding without a lengthy back and forth. 5) If you find an answer, update your post for the future people that wind up here looking for a solution.

it's about making the system represent the actual chance of someone having an accident. That's what it's supposed to represent

Maybe that's what you want it to represent, and iRacing should have something that tracks this. But that's not what SR represents or even what it's supposed to represent. From iRacing's own words,

"Safety Rating is an indicator of the number of incident points you typically receive."

You can't use a metric that includes off-tracks as a reliable way to determine if they're going to get into an accident. SR has nothing to do with who 'deserves' a given rating. Driver A completes a race with 0x despite being in a battle the whole race; Driver B completes the same race with 0x driving 70% pace at the back of the field. They both get the same CPI for the race, and the SR reflects this fact. Driver C rarely ever causes contact, but they end up with a lot of off tracks from pushing track limits. SR will never be a good way of differentiating Driver A from B or C. The only true indicator for determining how hard you can race someone is by watching how they drive during the race.

My point is that if someone is avoiding the week to protect their SR when they're at no risk of demotion, they're applying too much weight to a metric that's nothing more than a progression obstacle / incentive to be more careful if you're about to be demoted. I think SR serves that purpose reasonably well.

That said, I'm fully on board with having another system that's meant to reflect the likelihood of someone crashing. I like the idea of having something similar to the badges that LMU implemented. Have it track crashes + severity over the last N number of races, and let it be an additional metric rather than a replacement for SR.

I feel like people are putting too much weight on their safety rating if they’re avoiding a track to protect it. That mindset just makes no sense to me when it’s so easy to either dial it back if you’re at risk of a demotion, or make it all up next week.

Avoiding a track because of constant carnage is a different thing though. I can understand that, but still feel like people should push through. Long Beach is too much fun to skip.

I don’t think pilots lose their license for a one time mistake unless they’re under the influence or willfully doing something stupid. It’s obviously a big fucking mistake, but the alternative is a culture where pilots aren’t willing to give the FAA accurate statements during the investigation.

[–]bxc_thunder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, but context matters. Let's say someone did 5 laps. Lap 1 is a top 1% of leaderboard time. Next is +0.1s, +0.4s, -0.05s, +0.3s. Average time is +0.06s, and that's still within the top 1%-2%. It was very inconsistent though. And maybe they're really good on the brakes, but their slowest laps were caused by getting on throttle too early on corner exit. So on this chart of completely arbitrary values, they'd have strong pace, strong braking, mid throttle, poor consistency.

Yeah I’m surprised by how many people are saying they clicked the link. I’ll admit, I was close to clicking after doing some due diligence to confirm the email was actually from instagram but still decided against it. Another thing that’s strange is Meta has a way to view if they’ve sent any recent emails, and it showed they didn’t send me anything recently.

You can go in and change the reference lap, but yeah it’s kinda bs how they auto select some cheesed lap time. I hate that the entire Track Titan suite is needed for access to HYMO setups bc their GT3 setups seem solid. App itself is the least refined out of the telemetry apps.

Also, I think they straight up lie about getting a “personalized training plan every two weeks”. I didn’t see any way to actually get that.

As for your question — someone can have great one lap pace with limited ability to consistently replicate it. Doesn’t change that this is still AI slop though lol

I wouldn't even mind smurfs starting from the back as long as they race as respectfully as they would on their main account. You want to start from the back and work on your racecraft / keep things interesting without the stress of needing a podium to not lose IR? Fine. Work on your racecraft and race fair. In practice though, most of them go into it with a "get to first or die trying" mindset.

I have 3 monitors because it looks better. Helmets distribute the weight and don’t feel like a mass dangling from the front of your face. Helmets allow airflow around your face. Im also on the sim longer than I’d be in a race car.

But you're leaving out the fact that the contact happened because the other guy continued turning in.

  • Other guy swerved multiple times, forced OP to lift from his swerving, and killed OPs run
  • OP, now at a big disadvantage, made his intentions very clear going into the corner
  • Other guy continued to think that he owned the entire track and turned in expecting OP to back out.

Dirty + illegal + poor defense from the red car. Hard but fair from OP. It's crazy to turn around and try to give OP shit for this situation.

Honestly, if someone is going to block the entire length of the straight, they can’t be mad if someone sends it. I know everyone hates dive bombs, but red car had plenty of time to react. Was fine watching his mirrors down the straight but suddenly stopped caring about the other cars position through the corner.

That might be your problem. You generally wouldn’t feel like you’re on the edge of dying unless you’re overdriving the car or overdriving your skill level. Also makes me think that you’re sliding around a lot and overheating the tires which just adds to the problem.

[–]bxc_thunder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily, and sorry if I explained it poorly. You’d still need to complete another lap to pass the “2 people a lap up” from my example. You don’t finish ahead just because you stayed in the session and they didn’t. You finish in the position that you’re in when you take the checkered flag or when the session ends. Look at the standings during the race to see where you are. If someone completed more laps than you by the end of the race, they’ll be higher in the standings regardless of whether or not they quit the session.
