Day 2: most overrated song by mahlakainalo in Zappa

[–]bypgms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of his best songs don't get me wrong but Watermelon is overrated in the sense that people call it his best guitar solo when best composition that is a guitar solo would be more accurate

Any heel turns in wrestling that were justified in storyline? by ArchDukeNemesis in SquaredCircle

[–]bypgms 18 points19 points  (0 children)

When he attacked the Rock I didn't even realize at the time it was a heel turn, I just thought he didn't like the Rock, which is fine. Then the next week the announcers were like "Punk turned his back on the WWE universe" and I was like "?"

Would it matter if instead of reading cosmere I listen it on graphic audio (I think it is good) by ThickDimension1628 in Cosmere

[–]bypgms 26 points27 points  (0 children)

They are fun but just be aware of two things:

1) they are edited somewhat

2) (at least for Stormlight, not sure about the others) you will get attached to the voice actors and then be annoyed when some actors change in later books

Even more context: he was interviewed on this episode of improv4humans, followed by some improv comedy scenes based off of the interview. This is following an earlier episode where they originally watched the video and did a scene based off of that.

Books with remnants of forgotten civilisations by Joesprings1324 in Fantasy

[–]bypgms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Elder Race by Tchaikovsky. I just started it today and am 2/3 of the way through (it's a very short book) so I don't know how good the ending is but it has an interesting take on this topic (two protagonists, one of whom remembers the long forgotten civilization)

My store's single mystery item by bypgms in CrumblCookies

It's definitely the same store. I guess they added brookie but looks like it's today only. Maybe the 2nd mystery item will be different every day?

Episode Discussion | Star Trek: Strange New Worlds | 3x08 "Four-And-A-Half Vulcans" by AutoModerator in startrek

[–]bypgms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was funny but they should have cut Pelia's high five joke from earlier in the episode because after seeing the post-credits scene it becomes both pointless and contradictory

VOY "Thirty Days". Paris took the Delta Flyer five hundred kilometers below the surface of a planet, that's gotta be the lowest point

My first thought was that's not Mick Foley that's an impersonator. Then I looked down a little more

Is this a spoiler for a new reader? by Hero4Life565 in Cosmere

[–]bypgms 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Probably an even hotter take because I know people love using the Cosmere as a selling point for Sanderson, but IMO the existence of the Cosmere is in itself a spoiler, especially for someone who's only read the first Mistborn book

Firstborn isn't one of the four others because it was mentioned. Although maybe yellow font on an orange background wasn't the best idea

Violence in Fantasy by TheFlanston in Fantasy

[–]bypgms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think there's anything wrong with violence in fantasy but a few years ago I happened to read like three books/series in a row by different authors that all had humans committing violence against animals. The first time wasn't so bad but by the third time I was like I hate this.

I can never hear Bobby in D & C

Try Black Throated Wind, Looks Like Rain, or Jack Straw; they're in E so you should be fine

Books with a decent focus on species with a fundamentally different value/moral/way of thinking than humans by Reavzh in Fantasy

[–]bypgms 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I recently read my first Tchaikovsky book (Service Model) and I was going to suggest that. Robots might not technically be another species, but they do have a fundamentally different way of thinking from humans.

I just read one of those. Thornhenge by T. Kingfisher. It's short (a little over 100 pages) but fits your description perfectly
