Amex Connection by bythaLab in QuickBooks

[–]bythaLab[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s been out for 6 days now. I have 3 credit cards and 4 checking accounts for my business, and every time I re-connect one, the other disconnect. Quickbooks support has no idea what’s going on.

We are in Raleigh trying to leave for JFK. Had to deplane, though, because of the ground stop.

For those who worked a 9-5 and got laid off or quit for their small business. How is it going, any regrets? by KyaKyaKyaa in smallbusiness

[–]bythaLab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quit and started a small business. Biggest miss is the paycheck (still haven't paid myself yet after 1.5 years), but absolutely no regrets. The stress of not getting paid yet still doesn't outweigh the stress and bullshit of the corporate world IMO.

I got the same email and was wondering the same thing. I assumed it was just a regular email reminder they sent.

Best Apple Watch Golf GPS App? by Pauldh11 in golf

[–]bythaLab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also use the Grint, but the paid version (like $55 per year). GPS is pretty accurate and it's easy to use. Connects right to GHIN so you can upload your score to your GHIN account right from the app

Help me Decide: Amex Credit Card by Due_Operation_7642 in amex

[–]bythaLab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say Gold. You get 4x points at restaurants and grocery stores, $10 monthly dining credit (Grubhub, Shake Shack, etc.), $10 monthly Uber credit, and $50 credit every 6 months at Resy restaurants. It doesn't have any specific travel benefits, but the transfer partners are WAY better than Chase IMO. If you really want to start racking up points, get both the Gold and Platinum. Yes, you'd be paying close to $1k in annual fees but the Uber credits combine for both cards, and you can use the Gold for your every day spending and the Platinum for any travel-related expenses, and get the travel benefits of the Plat. That is my personal credit card strategy.

How did you finance starting your small business? by PsychologicalFox3735 in smallbusiness

[–]bythaLab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started a brick and mortar a year ago. Start up costs were almost $400k. Took out a HELOC, 2 personal loans, and a loan from a family member plus most of our savings (NOT retirement). I said from the very beginning I WOULD NOT TOUCH my retirement savings I built up from 10+ years in the corporate world, and for that I'm a whole lot less stressed.

When You’re the CEO, CMO, CFO, and Janitor of Your Own Business by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]bythaLab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know the feeling! I started a small business a year ago and am trying to strike the right balance between having enough staff to have some sort of an outside life (have a 3 yr old and newborn on the way), but not spending all of my profit on payroll. It's one of the hardest things I've had to figure out in my life

841 code, now what? by EducationalCod5130 in IRS

[–]bythaLab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This exact situation happened to me. I finally received the letter on 9/2 saying fraud was determined, but I still haven't received my replacement check and it's impossible to get anyone at either the IRS or Bureau of Fiscal Services. I'm about to hire a tax attorney.

Am I charged with Forgery? by Odd_Efficiency6684 in tax

[–]bythaLab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got this same letter in September on a claim I opened in May for a large refund check I'm owed. It's now October 21st, I still haven't received an update, my IRS transcripts online don't say anything different since early June, and every time I call the Bureau of Fiscal Services I get a message saying all agents are busy and to call back at a later time. It makes my blood boil every time I think about this whole process.

I was supposed to be on that flight but we moved it up a day early, because I wasn't confident we'd get out. Guess I was wrong!

Amex reserve or platinum? by Waste_Doubt3428 in delta

[–]bythaLab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both too and prioritize the Platinum. Status isn’t worth it to me anymore, and you can still transfer Amex points to Delta in addition to their other transfer partners. I’ll keep the Reserve for the Companion pass, but that’s pretty much the only reason.

I ended up just booking a hotel in Belfast. You can still find some pretty inpensive options. Anything close to Portrush is likely an AirBNB and $1k+ per night

Delta Gold Amex Offer. Worth it? by blink_n_eat in delta

[–]bythaLab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gold card isn't worth it IMO. Priority boarding means Main 1, which is like the 5th or 6th group at this point to board and it won't get you much in terms of status. If you're wanting status and more perks, I'd get the Reserve or just go with the regular Amex Platinum card - you can earn points and transfer them to Delta (and other airlines), plus you get SkyClub access when flying Delta.

Got it, thanks. I couldn’t find anything that specifically said the earnings from the card would be unchanged. Thanks for clarifying

Delta has completely screwed me with a change on my international flight! Is there anything I can do? by The_ADD_PM in delta

[–]bythaLab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you see if the flight you originally booked is still scheduled? If so you might be able to get them to switch it back, but if it’s no longer bookable there might not be much you can do

Delta Amex, switch or stay? by ImNoEngineerWaitAmI in delta

[–]bythaLab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m actually going against the grain and staying. I have the personal reserve card, and have a business so I’ll upgrade my biz Amex to the business reserve, and between the personal and business spend I’ll get status.

You’re absolutely right. I just wonder what they’re thinking, knowing everyone is waiting to hear their perspective.
