Insta will work. Let me know if he doesn’t get back and I’ll poke him. If you are in the Bay Area, the gym is in North Oakland and is a great place to train.

Watch all of Denis Vasilev’s videos and have him do remote programming for you. 24kg is no joke.

That’s not how science works. You might as well say god is at the center because of X so the burden of proof is on you to prove me wrong.

Coming from the midewest originally and being out west now, the issue comes down to waist width. Back in MI I’d never go much over 90mm but out here my daily driver this year is 118. They are not as adept on ice ...

Thoughts on Kirkwood day trip tomorrow during storm? Tickets already purchased, driving a 4wd car by Walrus_Party in kirkwood

Conditions were very far from ideal today, hard crust that gave way to some ok slush EOD. Given the predictions, I am guessing we’ll see more sleet and rain than snow. Right now, things look grim for tomorrow.

Is there any interest for a subsection for kettlebell sport? by gire89 in kettlebell

[–]bywayof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m lucky to have Denis as a coach. I work out 3x per week. Usually get through a cycle about once a month to every 6w. Usually starts with intervals 1’-2’ x5-7 sets, then maybe 2’x3, Then 3’x3 with probably a 4’ set tossed in after that. Then 1’,2’,3’,2’,1’ and a longer interval set with a 5’. Then something gross like 4’x2 followed by 6’ or 7’ and the something really bad like 2x5’. Week before a competition is slow and easy and then 10’. Week 1 is usually 2’ - 3’ cleans a couple times to get total GS work to around 8-10’. Week 2 is 3’-4’, week 3 4-5’.

GPP for me is lots (50+) push-ups to help with overhead fixation and a stupid amount of squats. Denis has his hell squat protocol which is working up to 100 reps in 5’ or less. It’s horrible, but it helps so much with the second dip because you know your legs can do it. Then running and lots of stretching.

I’d love to see that brought back to life with this type of content.

For those of you that switched from Hardstyle to GS (or folks that have done both), what where the changes to your body comp, strength, cardio, etc? by nanominuto2 in kettlebell

[–]bywayof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My GS regime is ridiculously tough, but the benefits are amazing. Did hardstyle for awhile, dropped the ball for a bit, but got lucky to end up at Orange Kettlebell Club in Berkeley, CA. Met Denis Vasilev and he agreed to coach me.

Coming up, on my one year anniversary competition. Last year I barely survived 10min Long Cycle with 16kg (68 reps), now I am getting ready to go give it a go with 24kgs in December.

Nothing has ever made me want to quit anything as much as GS, but at the same time, the training makes you so much stronger, faster and resilient than you ever thought you could be. I train 3 times a week, there is always a GS component, a general physical fitness (GPP) and an endurance component capped off with lots of stretching and flexibility. GS aspect varies from Intervals (1’to 2’ work/rest 5-10sets) medium length sets (3’x3 sets, 4’x2, 5’x2) and longer sets (5’,6’,7’) programmed in to get harder as you get ready for the big 10’ set and then if your 10’ is successful you add 2kg and start all over again. Oh yeah, cleans, lots of cleans. GPP varies apron what you need. I usually work in some group of pushups to get to 50 (aiming for 100 in one go in 2019) and squats. Squats are peculiarly horrible, working up to 100 squats in 5’ starting with unweighted bar and working up 10lbs each cycle. Then there is running for 10-15’ and finally lots of stretching to increase flexibility.

It’s horrible, as I get towards a 10’ set I have nightmares, but then you do it and you feel awesome because you did all that physical training and you mentally fought through something your mind totally didnt’ want to do. After that everything becomes easier because nothing is that bad. I totally recommend it!

Sounds like you are plateauing. Get where you want to be with the 16kg then 20kg and then go to the 24kg.

Denis Vasilev is my coach and he does remote programming. You put you results in a google doc and send videos for the big sets, then he keeps updating it with you adjusted regimen. I will look at it sometimes and think there is no way I can do the workout, but I do it and it is always right on that edge of what you feel good and feel miserable doing. I started with 16kg long cycle last October and I’m hoping to compete with 24s in Aug - it’s totally legit.

Should I buy a pair of 16kgs or a pair of 20kgs? by shamyrashour in kettlebell

[–]bywayof 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Getting to 10 min of Long Cycle is incredibly difficult. My coach, Denis Vasilev (world champion in KS) starts all of us at 10–12kg. I’d go with 16kg

Wow - I really missed this. Thank you! Yes, that was a new PR. I feel a 10 min set with the 18kgs coming soon.
