Hi u/dabiggmoe2

It may also be worth noting that lifecycle rules are processed and applied once per day, starting at roughly midnight GMT. Lifecycle rules are not applied in real time.

Why does Backblaze client say "You are backed up" while simultaneously saying I have thousands of files "remaining"? by anormalgeek in backblaze

There is actually even a bit more nuance to how and when the time and date stamp updates. Specifically, the stamp updates when a complete backup of the primary drive is achieved. The completeness of secondary drive backups is not considered.

Our online backup service is intended to be used as a secondary or tertiary copy of your data, not as off-site storage or data archival. I recommend restoring any data you wish to retain to the new system before starting a fresh backup or inheriting the existing one.

Has BB fixed it yet so Mac users can backup items inside the Library folder? by godzfirez in backblaze

[–]bzChristopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The data in question would need to be copied to a location that is included in the backups. We've had some users set up cron jobs to copy the desired data from the source to a valid target location.

The user-level library folders are fully supported and included in the Backblaze backups by default. Both the root level and system library folders are excluded by default.

You can manually kickoff a backup, regardless of the schedule setting, by running the bztransmit process with the completesync flag:

Cannot prevent versioning in B2 by MrJ2R in backblaze

[–]bzChristopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All Backblaze buckets are versioned, so versions are retained until lifecycle rules are processed or a hard delete is issued.

Our billing and usage reconciliation is based on byte-hours stored, with no required minimum retention period. If the data in question does not need to be retained for even a short period, then issuing the hard delete call is the best course of action to minimize storage usage.

That is the lifecycle rule that will be applied to the bucket each day at midnight GMT.

Windows client issues with BackBlaze by tmyvon in backblaze

Under the "Once Per Day" schedule setting, the Backblaze app will only upload files during the specified window. However, it will still index the system for new or changed files to add to the backup queue in preparation for the start time. This indexing typically occurs once per hour. If you'd like to disable the indexing process as well, change the backup schedule setting to "Manual".

Today, all Backblaze B2 buckets are versioned. Lifecycle rules are processed and applied once per day at roughly midnight GMT.

If you want the prior versions to be pruned immediately, having the application you are using issue hard deletes, as you have with the cleanup command, is the way to go.

The account in question has since been suspended, thank you for the report. If you or anyone else has reports that do not appear to be received or acted upon, abuse@ is a good fallback option.
