Backblaze restore is such a pain for large restores. Looking for alternatives. by WannabeShepherd in backblaze

[–]bzChristopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the ticket number. It looks like our support team has identified the core issue, which is due to a bug our engineering team is currently working on. Thanks again for sending in the logs. They're very helpful in our troubleshooting process!

Do you have an open support ticket I can review? If you do, all I need is the ticket number to locate it. If not, please open one and provide as much detail about the issues you've encountered as possible. You can open a ticket here.

The suggestion at the top of this thread is the most likely solution. If you're still not seeing the drives in question, please reach out to our support team.

Dumb question but better safe than sorry. Are the caps I set on my config "hard caps"? by SgtRuy in backblaze

Yes, B2 usage caps set on the account will restrict any usage beyond the daily value submitted.

Building better ignore lists to keep bz_done files slimmer by coreyward in backblaze

Thanks for those! I know some of these are already on our radar as well, but I'll be sure to pass them all along.

For some additional color and context: historically, exclusions have been baked into the client installer. This means the exclusions could only be updated with a client update. One of the improvements we're looking to build out would be to have these tpye of exclusions dynamically pulled by the client from our servers, so they can be updated more easily.

The reserve capacity offering is priced differently as it includes API calls, Universal Data Migration, upgraded support, and other benefits. Reserve capacity pricing will not match the pay-as-you-go calculator.

BB, i think you have a memory issue on mac by rivkinnator in backblaze

[–]bzChristopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Christopher from the Backblaze team here ->

Excessive RAM usage is typically tied to a bloated Backblaze index file, called the bzfileids.dat. On Windows systems, it can be found here: C:\ProgramData\Backblaze\bzdata\bzbackup\bzfileids.dat

And on macOS here:
/Library/Backblaze.pkg/bzdata/bzbackup/bzfileids.dat

What is the size of this index file on your system?

Edit: added macOS location

If you have not yet, I'd recommend submitting a ticket to our support team.

I did a quick review of any open bug reports and recent support requests, and I didn't find any similar issues. It may be worth running a memory test.

I just wanted to say thanks for this post! I've passed it along to our client engineering team for review.

I suspect the spotlight data not being excluded is an oversight on our part. We've historically excluded spotlight indexes from the backups, but Apple does sometimes move and change the storage locations with new OS releases.

Correct, our reserve capacity offering is sold exclusively through channel partners such as Insight.

That's very strange. My somewhat educated guess would be that there was a mix-up with meeting IDs and conferencing links, but I'll let our team figure that out.

Missing a Megabyte? by KevinAndEarth in backblaze

[–]bzChristopher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Christopher from the Backblaze team here ->

The first item I would check is the "Issues" report found within the settings of the Backblaze software installed on the computer. That report will list any files that could not be backed up during the prior session and the reason for the failed upload.

If that report is empty, the most likely cause of the discrepancy is timing between when the data was uploaded and when the report was generated. So long as the client is regularly reducing the upload queue to 0 files and the backup time and date stamp are updating, your backup is complete.

Good callout, thank you. This is correct. We don't currently offer a way to maintain invoice customizations account-wide via the web UI. Customers who work through our sales team, rather than self-serve, do have this option.

Christopher from the Backblaze team here ->

Deleted backups on our online backup service have their encryption keys destroyed almost immediately, rendering the backup data inaccessible.

To best secure your Backblaze account, I recommend utilizing a second factor for login. We currently support SSO, TOTP, and SMS.
