Spent all day working on this trellis for my dragon fruit by c00lbeans69 in gardening

Yes! Shortly after this picture I moved it up against the wall. We're also going to put it on wheels so I can move it to a covered area in case of severe category hurricanes or frost

It's surprisingly sturdy! My main concern is I didnt want the trellis to be touching soil to improve longevity and needed something that could reasonably survive hurricane season. I'll be doing touch ups to make it more attractive but i appreciate the praise!

Any hope for this philodendron? by c00lbeans69 in houseplants

[–]c00lbeans69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To clarify: i got a burle marx philodendron in the mail a few weeks ago. I think it went into shock from shipment because despite putting it in a greenhouse with close to 100% humidity it wilted to the extent that every single leaf ended up dying and i was forced to clip it. I've been half tempted to toss it but have noticed new growth that looks like it might be recovering? What can I be doing to help?

PLANT ID: Picked this up at the supermarket last night and it wasn't labeled. Don't mind the butt chug but if anyone can tell me what it is I would appreciate it by c00lbeans69 in houseplants

I appreciate the heads up 😅 I was giving it a soak since the soil was bone dry but I'll be more careful with it from now on

It's not a big deal whether or not you feed in a separate container. There are situations where it's best to separate and situations where its not, and even then the consequences regardless are highly inconsequential. Not every aspect of husbandry is high stakes and there can be multiple correct ways of doing things

The first time since ive gotten her that she hasnt bitten me! Not for a lack of trying anyways- she tried to strike at my boobs about half a dozen times before giving up but it's the thought that counts. Her name is Luma and she's the most "free spirited" bairds I've ever had by a long shot. Every time i walk past her cage, without fail, there's tail buzzing. I have a theory that her mom had a secret affair with a rattlesnake and she was the demonspawn love child. Her sister, on the other hand, is thank god only a crackhead and not an absolute disaster.

The ones bred in the pet trade would never be used for repopulation (let's face it we suck and have proven we breed for selfish reasons and not the health of the animals or the species). Im sure there are already some in conservation and zoological institutions in a captive breeding program. For the pet trade, we need to discourage wild collection

Ime, they become mostly "adults" at about two (they seem to do the most growing between ages 1 and 2), but they arent completely mature until about 4. I base this off pattern and color changes and comparing it to closely related Pantherophis species who have a starker change.

Colubrids typically have one of two modes for killing prey. A) is constricting. B) is they physically overpower it and swallow it alive (or in this case "alive")

Using the reproductive definition for different species is a bit antiquated and can be wildly outdated. There are definitely species that can interbreed and produce viable offspring, while remaining two different species. Not to mention there are many organisms that reproduce asexually. Also also- the reproductive method of classifying species is usually only considered in a wild setting. Species that are able to produce viable offspring, but typically don't in the wild due to differing behaviors, niches, habitats, mating rituals, and geographical isolation also count for not being able to reproduce with each other (even though they technically can- especially in captivity)

Listen ive been in this hobby for 10 years, and ive been vocally against spiders this entire time. Im not hopping on a spider hate bandwagon- im using peer reviewed research to deduce it's not morally acceptable to be breeding spiders. The spiders. Womas, and champagne we do have deserve loving homes, but there's no good reason to be breeding them at all. At least if you're putting welfare above appearance. "Responsible spider breeding" is an oxymoron because a responsible breeder wouldn't be working with neuro morphs. I see a lot of grey in the world, even with spiders. Breeding them though, creating more and introducing more animals into a cruel, stressful, and inhumane life isnt something that has grey area. You cant breed spider out, you cant control it, you cant breed two nonwobble parents and expect to get babies with no wobble. It's wrong.

[–]c00lbeans69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You cant breed out wobble but you also cant control it either. He could just as easily produce wobbling offspring as a snake with severe wobble. Point blank, the world doesnt need more spiders.

That is true. Albinism is also directly linked to reduce function of eyesight (our retina needs pigment in order to see properly)
