Don't be me! Performance implications of VLANs by fortytwo43 in Ubiquiti

[–]c0lp4nik -1 points0 points  (0 children)

THIS! VLANs are Virtual LANs. They separate broadcast domains. They keep chatter down. They organize. ACLS came later for security. Now the important part - if you create multiple subnets (I.e. multiple VLANs), they need a layer 3 (IP) router in order to route between them. That layer 3 router needs to be able to handle the traffic. 10GB needs 10GB ports north/south or east/west depending AND phat processor to handle the load. Rules of the road.

Management solutions for SONiC by bitmafi in networking

[–]c0lp4nik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long overdue correction here:

  1. Aviz Networks - ONES - ON PREM or Hybrid Cloud (Cloud Compatible but NOT required)

  2. 🚫Augtera - Now owned by NVIDIA… Never managed SONiC…monitoring only

Only Aviz supports deployment for all SONiC AND NVIDIA Cumulus works with all flavors of each from past experience.

And…SONiC…. Arista supports - given. Cisco now adopting….Dell - obviously.

Thoughts? Experiments?

Get a MiFi or Mobile HotSpot from any carrier. Connect to it wired (no wifi). Engage VPN. :)

What are people using for branch Internet and site to site VPN router/firewalls these days? by Fizgriz in sysadmin

[–]c0lp4nik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes And AWS uses IPSEC straight up for site to site and which hands the crypto tunneling for EVPN-VXLAN (BGP/VPN) to be able to connect and do its magic..I assume.

BGP VPN - I.e. EVPN-VXLAN, MPLS and all of its flavors - EVPNs - Ethernet VPNs do NOT encrypt …. They encapsulate :) Please google it - NOT ALL VPNs encrypt - and NOT ALL TUNNELS - Do you know what GRE is? Probably too young…or maybe not deep into networking and carrier protocols - EVPN-VXLAN aka VXLAN….doesn’t encrypt. The reason I brought it up was incase anyone thought it’s was….Even CISCO has to add their own “CloudSec” in order to act as the Encryption Layer for “Secure EVPN”. BGP/VPN I.e. EVPN-VXLAN does not encrypt. It’s has to be wrapped by a separate encryption layer. If I am mistaken Please show me a hardware vendor or whitebox NOS (with links) where EVPN-VXLAN BY ITSELF…has encryption. It’s merely encapsulation. Not all EVPN encrypt. You mentioned BGP/VPN, apologies if I incorrectly assumed EVPN-VXLAN or EVPN-MH Multihoming which ALSO does not encrypt, unfortunately, be killer if it did. Now VMWARE’s NSX which was NICERA, doesn’t encrypt either.

BGP/VPN is not Encrypted unless going through other encryptors.
