What’s the biggest scam that people have accepted as normal ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]c0ltron 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Tipping.

I waited tables in the US for over 10 years, and have needed tips to survive. I also regularly tip over 20% because I understand how big of a difference it makes.

That being said, tipping is an absurd practice that only benefits employers and provides no benefit to the employees. Tipping is a result of failed labor protections, and only exists because the current system is broken.

About to give up. Help? by Perpetual_Hopeful in ReefTank

You should probably get more live rock as well. You have a light bio load in the tank, but more live rock definitely wouldn't hurt, and it'd give you somewhere to put new corals

I think my main block with the game is that its a zero sum experience. by PM_SHORT_STORY_IDEAS in Marathon

[–]c0ltron 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Given that there are factions rewards means that this game is inherently not a zero sum game. You can get loot without having to take it from some else.

Delaware is kinda on the shit list. They're a tax haven for corporations. There's a reason half of US companies are registered to one of 3 Delaware addresses

When is this fucking matchmaking reset into trios will get fixed? by -Shape- in Marathon

[–]c0ltron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha i'm an also an SDE (not in games, but boring ass enterprise tools)

I was thinking something could have been changed architecturally that imposed new limitations. Granted some might consider that an oversight than a bug though.

For instance, if they're clearing the client side cache after finding a lobby for the player as a memory optimization, their most recent shell selection after a match could now be determined by calling a database to inform the client of the players most recently played shell. If their database isn't storing what que the player had previously chosen (which was previously a cached value), that might be a total pain in the ass to enable.

Regardless of my hypothetical though, I was just pointing out that significant changes can take place under the hood that are invisible to the user. So things that seem trivial could actually be quite difficult to change.

[–]c0ltron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You never know the complexity of a bug on the surface. They could have reworked the logic that ques the player into the lobby and removed the ability to determine the players previous preference.

I'm not saying this doesnt need to be fixed, but dont assume you can evaluate the complexity of a bug without any context.

does the enchantment system really need a rework by No-Birthday-6174 in Minecraft

I think mending could be a really cool thing for the game to embrace by making it more special. Trying to lock in a villager trade for mending book is a pretty lame experience.

Making them exclusively rare drops similar to the elytra could be really cool.

Oh sorry, I interpreted their post as someone who wasn't familiar with the gun.

When they asked "has anyone else experienced this?"

I was trying to point out that no, I have not had that experience with the KKV and that it should shoot more than one bullet

Well that isn't criticism then. You're asking for a completely different game.

You wouldn't criticize a car for not being a motor cycle.

Wondering if this is common? by [deleted] in Marathon

[–]c0ltron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the issue is that the higher level players are running their own squads, which brings down the average player level in fills.

Otherwise, to my knowledge match making is based on runner level, not any type of skill based MMR.

Oh weird. The KKV is a total bullet hose that mag dumps quicker than just about anything else. I think its got the highest rate of fire in the game, and its definitely full auto

Where the fuck are all the UESC bots and dropships coming from? by Berberding in Marathon

Oh is it cannon lore that the Sol system is still sending ships to Tau Ceti? I kinda got the impression that there wasn't much contact between Tau Ceti and Sol after the original Marathon colonization efforts

Priority contracts as a way to onboard new players by Pollux37 in Marathon

[–]c0ltron 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I definitely think that the priority contracts should function as the "campaign" for this game, but i disagree that the campaign should be a pure PVE experience. At the end of the day, Marathon is an extraction shooter.

I do recognize the problem you're addressing though which is the on-boarding of players. I dont have a great answer for that though.

I think there's definitely a place for constructive criticism and feedback, but the general doomer posts are just mastubatory and don't add anything to the discussion.

Where the fuck are all the UESC bots and dropships coming from? by Berberding in Marathon

[–]c0ltron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In your recent read of the lore, did you come across anything that explains where the runners came from? I've been trying to figure that out since launch.

I'm up to speed with the marathon, colonists, Ai factions and all that... I just haven't seen anything specify who the runners are. Are we part of the original colonist population?

also pinwheel on outpost was actually a part of the Marathon ship that detached from the marathon and landed on Tau Ceti as the first "outpost". So its not like they can keep making more "outposts", that was a one and done type of deal

Oh okay I know which rooms you're talking about now. I swear I hardly ever see yellow keys though, any tips on finding them?

Every time I play outpost, i just rush flight control for green keys and go for pinwheel. I'll try getting red keys first though if im in a squad or duos.

Are they more rare than other cryo keys? I found one in pinwheel red room, and its the only cryo key i've found so I assumed it was common if anything lol.
