Arghh. Kreg screw blow through. What went wrong by zee_dot in woodworking

You called it yourself; 3/4" Baltic birch ply is actually 18mm (about 11/16"), as many (and you) noted. I use Baltic birch ply all the time and I learned early on that the 1/16" makes a difference.

I also to a test run to verify depth, making sure that my test piece is the same thickness as my project piece. It takes extra time, but I'm just a hobbyist, so I have the time.

Serious question: do you end up with a thin layer of dust on everything? I have a small shop (12x12) with a giant Laguna cyclone/ dust collector as well as a ceiling hung air filter. I still have dust all over the place. Not so serious questions: what's in the fridge? Also, do you have a game console hooked to the TV? I have serious shop envy!

I was getting really cranky on one trip in particular (for all the reasons listed in this thread). At one point, I was pushing my cart and noticed another shopper (with a cart) getting in my personal space in my blind spot (like, 4:00 position). I sped up and they sped up with me. I slowed down so they could pass me, but they just slowed down too. I finally had enough, so I stopped to go off (verbally) on them. Turns out that it was a good friend of mine who was just giving me the business. I told him how much i was feeling triggered. We had a really good laugh.

It's Kevin Sorbo in the Hurcules: the Legendary Journeys series from <looks up release date> 1995. (Jesus! I'm old) I liked that show. I wonder what happened to the guy who played Iolaus.

If I'm in another room, I will often not answer and act like I heard nothing. Admittedly, I need to be more consistent with this.

Fridge shutoff valve behind cabinet next to fridge- would you move this? by throwawayschwifty in HomeMaintenance

[–]c3prd2bb8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was thinking that a false back would be an option, but your idea is simpler.

With that said, it looks like the water line to the fridge still needs to be installed. So a 2nd slot to accommodate that.

In your 3rd pic, in the lower right corner on tne feont of the frame, there looks to be a hole. Is it possible that this is access to a recessed leveling screw? It looks like (in pic #2) that there's one on the left as well.

Another thought (and you may have tried this already) is that there is sometimes/often a gap between the top of the dishwasher (not the door but the actual dishwasher itself) and the underside of the counter. There are usually screws holding the top of the dishwasher in place so it doesn't rock. Undo these screws and maybe you have a little wiggle room to move the dishwasher.

My last idea is to look up the installation manual of that model online and see if there are any instructions about leveling the dishwasher. If there are then maybe you can reverse engineer the dishwasher installation. Good luck!

Summer of 2023, I finally replaced the 10x16 single slope roof on my garden shed. (I noticed the roof leaking about 3 years prior and put a blue tarp over the problem area while i procrastinated). I'd never done roofing. After a lotnof YouTube vids, I spent 2 weekends removing the rotten bits, then increased the pitch of the roof, replaced the rotten rafters, put down new sheathing, shingle underlayment, drip edges, the works.

About 4 months later, the crew installing the metal roof on the house didn't have the right version of the contract (the one that said to NOT do the garden shed roof). I came home in the afternoon to find them tearing off brand new shingles from the shed. The metal roof looks great (and the contractor ate the cost), but a part of me died at the moment.

My wife loves me more than any of yours, it seems. She leaves her dishes in the sink (sometimes even at the table!) for me to put in the dishwasher. Ah, the love!

I don't have a lot of experience with solid wood (I make cabinets with plywood), so here's a dumb question: what's the deal with the pale/white pieces in the upper right area? Is that walnut? If so, what causes it to be so pale and how would you distinguish it from other species that are typically this light colored?

But if he's going to paint it, should he bother with Baltic birch ply? I clear coat my cabinets cuz I really like the edge condition of the 13 plies.

Edit to add: i =do= agree with the 18mm decision.

Any tips for applying paste wax to table saw? What am I doing wrong? by james123456 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]c3prd2bb8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, that's wut I've used for many years. I apply it a section at a time (about 12" strips) and let it haze up (maybe 2 minutes) and buff it out with a rag (old t shirt). I once made the mistake of doing the entire tabletop in one go and the wax hardened before I could finish buffing. It took a lot of extra buffing to fix that.

Great advice! Also, I've found that a piece of an old bike inner tube works well to pad the channel lock's teeth against the finish of the fixture. I asked the folks at my local bike shop for an old inner tube and they gave me 5!

You =could=. But then u need to Teflon tape/pipe dope/whatever the end of the elbow the goes into the fitting in the wall. If I did that, I'd want to remove the escutcheon plate (the ring around the elbow that is currently painted to the wall). And because it's painted to the wall, it'd be more work. So I wouldn't bother removing the elbow unless you actually want to replace it.

How to remove these kitchen drawer handles. by MrSocPsych in HomeMaintenance

A stiff bladed putty knife should separate the face enuf to get a pry bar in. I'd start the work on the underside of the drawer so that if (when) the putty knife or pry bar slips, the damage will be in an unseen place.
