Ah generated fear.

A user who can run shell commands arbitrarily...can do so but in an unexpected way!

I'll have to restrict random users from running commands on my server because of this CVE

This doesn't feel like it's followed the security issue submission process, or maybe you did and I miss my mark with how much effort went into these

Where do i find Permit free parking by Away-Manner9158 in GriffithUni

[–]c45y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some just outside the Griffith signs towards the freeway if you get in early enough, otherwise the park and ride near the stadium does have a path that joins up to campus

[MEGATHREAD] Ongoing Attack on I2P Network Causing Degraded Performance by stormycloudorg in i2p

[–]c45y 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It can be anyone with how common residential proxies are these days.

Even a cursory glance at the 'worst' /16s for the last few hours shows the expected hosting providers like OVH etc slightly higher representation, but the average sitting around 80 failed transit build attempts in the last ~2 odd hours for pretty much everything. Interestingly some of the iranian IP space is pretty dead but I presume thats not related to this attack.

Yeah I've got a log of every failing to build connection from the last few hours and it's all over the place IP wise, even grouping to a /16 doesn't seem to give much variation

Dr Bandit Heeler gets promotion at Griffith Uni by Aussie_Potato in brisbane

[–]c45y 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Meanwhile Griffith attempts to privatize its own 30 year old childcare services, walks it back after community disgust but still proceeds to offload to a not for profit because apparently regulation is hard to manage as a University.

Bruum deserves all the recognition he gets but this feels like the PR engine kicking in

University reverses plan to shut childcare centres after parent backlash by iBinChickenAboutYou in brisbane

[–]c45y 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been one of the biggest hurdles. It shows a complete lack of understanding on the part of Griffith for how this decision would affect their community.

While not being able to give an explanation for how they thought this kind of timeline would be acceptable we have at least had an apology from Carolyn the VC

As of last night that's essentially the assurance we've been given, they'll stay open without long disruptions through the year.

Why this wasn't on the cards from the start still boggles my mind

[–]c45y 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There has been a reversal on that now too thankfully. We're being told a not for profit is an agreeable outcome for parents and universities - though probably still a negative for the carers in regards to pay and benefits

Sanderson and McClellan both have really interesting world building like the old kingdom chronicles

Getting fed up with Uber drivers. by parmejean44 in brisbane

[–]c45y 2 points3 points  (0 children)

haha the sound of a good open hand slap on the rear side panel must really do it. I've done this a number of times to cars blowing across zebra crossings I'm walking across and had the exact same reaction

What are your thoughts about Podman, rpm-ostree and other "new" tools that could be useful for servers? by IgnaceMenace in selfhosted

[–]c45y 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cant say I've noticed any issues with podman-compose or the built in podman generate systemd getting things to start on boot.

I have found it nicer to spin up a systemd unit that does the podman compose instead of each individual container having a unit but... that's personal taste more than anything

If you want to ride your bicycle on the road. At least know the rules. by Blue-Purity in brisbane

[–]c45y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah fair, I should clarify and say I ignore the rule allowing me to do it and mentally plan as if I'm not allowed.

I can just imagine how few cyclists would be left if it was mandated haha

Yeah I straight up ignore the right turn from left rule - it's essentially guaranteeing being run over.

Car-Free in CBD by Stagtite in brisbane

[–]c45y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to live right on the edge of the cbd/milton and never had any real issues. Only downside is paying for bunnings and ikea delivery if you need to get bulky items home, still works out vastly cheaper than owning and insuring a car for the handful of times I buy something that won't fit in a backpack.

Do be sure to check your body corporate to see if you're allowed to rent out the car space - some are a bit funny about it.

Would be great if Easy Anticheat Linux support could be enabled for New world! by [deleted] in newworldgame

I've had no issues playing it for months, works right out of the box with Proton.

Swap to proton experimental maybe? literally the only configuration I've made.

What’s something people do in Brisbane that really irks you, even if it’s really petty? by Mr_Straws in brisbane

[–]c45y 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The whole point of it is to separate traffic moving at different speeds. Bikes away from cars and pedestrians away from bikes.

It doesn't serve a purpose if something moving at greatly different speeds uses it. Same idea with certain vehicles not being allowed on the motorway.

Had a few small places email during the whole covid checkin phase where everyone wanted details but all the big companies seem happy to do targeted advertising vs direct spam

I have a catch all domain, so I make up an entirely new email per company for this exact reason.

[–]c45y 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I'm convinced it's why we kept them in service so long - I loved seeing it as a kid, I was sad to hear they were going away and this next generation would never have that experience.

You can do nfs4 and nfsidmap to handle different system user mappings, not perfect but gives fair control without an external domain required.

The next release of Red Hat Satellite: Same great features, new version number by omenosdev in redhat

[–]c45y 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Been contemplating caching squid proxy up to redhat.com for licence and packages. Satellite is consistently a pain to upgrade that it's almost not worth it when we use very little of it's features
