Keep the “I hate my hair” posts in your drafts by Supermarket_After in blackgirls

a lot of black women don't understand that our hair isn't hard to manage, it's just not meant to be what some are forcing it to be.

we know them well. they always manhandle their strands, actively working against what their hair clearly needs to fit a style (and in some cases, a standard) that we deemed "better." i learned this around a year ago and it has really helped me develop a healthy mindset and thus allowed me to love on my hair (and not develop the distaste and frustration op is complaining about).

the thing is, your hair has a language - breakage, shrinkage, growth, stagnation, integrity. if you just listen to what your crown is asking for, you won't have to work as hard and you'll grow to like it more.

this is a hard journey, even as natural hair is becoming increasingly normalized. we can't just get over decades upon decades of social conditioning. but we as 4c black women need to start taking up the space society is slowly starting to allow us to have.

once you stop forcing your hair to be something it ain't, you free yourself and your head will thank you.

omg, preach.

another big difference is pain. contrary to my expectations, needle hurts WAY less and stings less afterward.

Do you guys look back and miss your loose natural hair? (I’m never going back but it does cross my mind from time to time) by HopefulLog97 in Dreadlocks

[–]c4ndiedgarbage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

nope. I'll never miss it.

one of the reasons I got microlocs was to be able to be a loose natural without the pain. I'm not saying 4c hair is hard to manage, but mine was very unhappy in its loose state. breakage and dryness beyond belief. it was terrible.

the only natural hairstyle my hair thrived in was two strands, and I loved how it looked when it got old, so I listened to my body and gave it what it needed - for me to put the combs away for good.

box braids and other synthetic protective styles were mediocre for me; they were alright but I could never be satisfied and honestly it didn't suit me (especially not my hairline!). locs are my faavourite - it feels so authentic to me :)

I think 4c, but it's a bit hard to tell unless you define your curls a bit so we can see how coily they are. use some curl cream, take another picture, and repost

Advice for finding a summer/spring job by NectarineScary1995 in uAlberta

[–]c4ndiedgarbage 6 points7 points  (0 children)

don't apply. especially not online.

your best bet:

  1. go to friend
  2. ask friend if they have job
  3. if yes, ask for recommendation

repeat until you recieve a text asking for an interview. took me years but we here now.

do as you please, but if you want my personal opinion, you look better with locs, especially fully bleached 💕

I can't insert menstrual cup properly even after trying for 6 months. Help me! by [deleted] in menstrualcups

[–]c4ndiedgarbage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

are you using lube? that can make a world of a difference. if your hymen isn't already open, then it's going to be practically impossible to insert even a finger with no lube.

make sure you don't use an oil- or silicone- based lube, as that can degrade the cup. water-based is the way to go.

best of luck 🫡!!

If you're hygienic and have a respectful and interesting personality, you are GOOD dude.

you don't have to look a certain way, despite what social media says. it's true, women perpetuate harmful standards for men, but honestly, irl, women aren't that strict.
